The Bureau of Investigative Journalism (TBIJ) pursues research, investigations, reporting and analysis to help educate the public about the realities of power.
We were established in 2010 as the first independent not-for-profit investigative journalism organisation in the UK, where philanthropically funded journalism is still rare. Our formation and continued funding is on the assumption that investigative journalism is indispensable to democracy in providing the public with the knowledge and facts about the way in which important institutions in our society operate, so that they can be fully informed citizens. To that end we pursue journalism that is of public benefit by undertaking in-depth research into the governance of public, private and third sector organisations and their influence.
