Energizing the future – this gets to the very heart of Swissgrid's remit and role in reliably and sustainably supplying Switzerland with power. As the national grid company, Swissgrid operates the transmission grid (the "electricity super highway") and monitors it around the clock.
At its sites in Laufenburg, Frick, Lausanne and Prilly, the young company has more than 400 qualified employees from more than 21 nations. Rising electricity consumption, new power plants and the feeding in of electricity from renewable energies mean that the grid needs modernising.
This is a project of national importance, because the Swiss electricity grid is not only of key importance in ensuring the security of the country's power supply, but also in terms of its contribution to our economy.
