Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association has been helping people with a disability lead active, healthy lives and achieve their sporting dreams since 1977. The Association is the peak body for sport, recreation and fitness for people with a physical disability or vision impairment in Queensland and is recognised as a national leader in the field. Members include people with spinal cord injury, amputations, acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and other neuromuscular and orthopaedic conditions as well as people with partial or total vision loss. The Association provides a wide range of services including the LinkUp advisory service for people with a disability seeking information on sport and healthy activity opportunities; social sport competition for fun and fitness; regional, state and national championships; athlete funding; Junior Development Program for promising young athletes; adapted sporting equipment hire; subsidised recreational activities; and an inclusive fitness and rehabilitation facility at its Bowen Hills headquarters. The Association is also actively involved in community engagement and education. Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association is a not-for-profit organisation and raises the majority of its own funding through donations, corporate partnerships and regular Gold Choice Art Unions.
