Sculpture by the Sea is a major international series of free to the public sculpture exhibitions that began in 1997 on the spectacular coastal walk at Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach. The exhibition now attracts over 500,000 visitors to see more than 100 sculptures from across the world during 3 weeks as Sydney celebrates the start of daylight saving. Since this time Sculpture by the Sea has grown nationally and internationally to include an annual exhibition on Australia’s Indian Ocean coast at Perth’s popular Cottesloe Beach. Held in March since 2005 the Cottesloe exhibition attracts over 100,000 visitors and is extending to 3 weeks in 2009. Sculpture by the Sea is also holds a biennial exhibition in Aarhus, Denmark under the Patronage of The Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Denmark. Put together, the Australian and Denmark exhibitions feature over 200 sculptures by artists from across the world, viewed by some 750,000 visitors, while generating millions of dollars of tourism revenue and international media coverage.
