Prisoners Abroad is the only UK charity caring for the welfare of British citizens held in foreign prisons. We provide lifesaving services such as: money for food and clean water, emergency medical care, vitamins, water filters, freepost envelopes to keep in touch with home, books, magazines and dictionaries. No other UK charity supports British citizens in this way. Right now we are supporting over 1,200 people in more than 85 countries around the world. Many are held in conditions that seriously threaten their mental and physical health. We believe that no person imprisoned abroad should suffer conditions threatening their life, dignity or health. We care about the welfare of all British citizens held in foreign prisons or on remand, regardless of the crimes they are charged with. Prisoners Abroad’s expert and friendly case workers support those imprisoned abroad and their families and friends; we help whether you need information, advice or just someone to talk to. Prisoners Abroad works closely with British consular officials around the world, who refer people to our services. Every years, Prisoners Abroad help more than 150 British citizens who return to the UK after a prison sentence overseas. We provide a crisis service to ensure they have a roof over their heads and are supported to get back on their feet and live fulfilling, crime-free lives. Prisoners Abroad provides a non-judgemental service regardless of innocence or guilt, sentenced or on remand - our support is based on need.
