As an investment vehicle of the Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputra or Bumiputra Investment Foundation, the core function of PNB is to evaluate, select and acquire a sound portfolio of shares in limited companies with growth potential.
Being an organisation that specialises in investment, PNB in essence acts as a warehouse whereby shareholdings in these limited companies is placed in a unit trust fund and sold to Bumiputera in the form of smaller units.
Since its establishment on March 17, 1978, PNB has succeeded in mobilising and accumulating about RM150 billion in unit holders and proprietary funds for its various investments in about 300 subsidiary companies in Malaysia. Investments by PNB currently include, among others, substantial shareholdings in established companies such as Sime Darby Berhad, Malayan Banking Berhad, UMW Holdings Berhad, I&P Group Sdn. Berhad, Chemical Company of Malaysia Berhad, Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad, MNRB Holdings Berhad, NCB Holdings Berhad and Prolintas.
