The Institute for Social Research was established as an independent research foundation in 1950. Ever since its foundation the institute has been multidisciplinary in its orientation, today comprising research within all of the social sciences, as well as history.
Today the institute provides one of the few social science fora outside the universities in Norway which has not limited itself to the study of one single sector of society.
Our researchers are organised into four groups:
- Work and Welfare
- Equality, Inclusion, Migration
- Politics, Democracy, Civil Society
- Welfare Policy and Politics
There is extensive cross disciplinary and cross-group collaboration on a number of projects.
