Guitars Over Guns

Guitars Over Guns is a Florida non-profit organization made up of dedicated professional musicians in the Miami area. In an effort to reduce dropout rates and empower program participants, these musicians devote their time on a weekly basis to mentoring at-risk youth from their local communities. We are partnered with Communities in Schools (CIS), the largest dropout prevention organization in the country, which selects the schools most in-need of the program, provides mentor training, and helps provide the students with instruments. We also work closely with the University Of Miami who provides supplemental music training and mentorship for the students on alternate days of the week. Having recently expanded, our program is operating in two North Miami-based schools, currently enrolling over 50 kids. Mentors meet with students biweekly and provide one-on-one mentoring, music theory, instrumental instruction, and performing opportunities.
