Description
Information
Gotham Gazette reports on the important issues facing New York City and on the policies and politics that shape life for its 8 million residents. Through original reporting, analysis, commentary and aggregation of other news, we inform New Yorkers and enrich and enliven debate over the decisions that affect everyone who lives or works here -- or simply cares about America's largest city. Every weekday, we provide in-depth reporting on vital city concerns and news coverage of city issues from land use to food security to civil rights. The "Eye-Opener", our morning news digest, gathers the most relevant New York City news stories from sources across the city to present a comprehensive view of what's happening each day in city issues and politics. As a non-partisan site -- and a firm believer in robust debate -- we also offer a platform for city officials, advocates and thinkers to present their views on the issues New Yorkers face. Our blog, "The Wonkster," tracks breaking city news, ongoing policy debates and the occasional offbeat item. In all of this, we aim to provide coverage that is fair, informative, accessible and lively. About our Publisher Citizens Union Foundation of the City of New York, a non-profit research and education affiliate of a good-government group founded in 1897, believes that a well-informed citizenry is essential to a healthy democracy. In 1999, Citizens Union Foundation received a grant from the Charles Revson Foundation to create Gotham Gazette and help realize that goal, since then Gotham Gazette has evolved into a model for on-line local sites throughout the country and for nonprofit journalism. Today, Gotham Gazette receives support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the John and James L. Knight Foundation, the Fund for the City of New York, the Robert Sterling Clark Foundation, and our readers.
