German International School Chicago (GISC) is an independent, not-for-profit, bilingual school with over 100 students from Pre-K through 6th grade. GISC students work on transdisciplinary units with global perspectives within the framework of the International Baccalaureate (IB) taught mainly in German. Low student/teacher ratios enable students to learn in a supportive, intimate, individualized environment that nurtures curiosity and creativity and fosters global awareness. GISC students – fluent in German and English – will become well-rounded, creative, responsible, tolerant global citizens. GISC welcomes students of all backgrounds and nationalities. The current student body represents more than 20 different nationalities. For the upcoming school year, GISC is now accepting German-speaking students through 7th grade and non-German speakers through 2nd grade. GISC is a Provisional Member of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), is recognized as a DSD school by the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad (ZfA), and is an official PASCH Partner School. GISC is also a candidate school for the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
