The Fritz Haber Institute, in short the Fritz or FHI, is a world-renowned institution for research in physical chemistry in general, and the investigation of physical/chemical processes at surfaces and interfaces in particular.
The institute was founded in 1911 as "Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Physikalische Chemie und Elektrochemie". The institute was founded again after World War II and in 1953 Integrated into the Max-Planck-Society and named in honour of its first director, Fritz Haber. The institute is led by the Board of Directors of the five departments: Molecular Physics (G. Meijer), Inorganic Chemistry (R. Schlögl), Interface Science (B. Roldan Cuenya), Physical Chemistry (M. Wolf), and Theory (M. Scheffler).
