We’re Facepunch, an independent game developer in Birmingham, UK. We made Garry’s Mod and Rust, two of the most popular Steam games of all time. It was Garry’s Mod that kicked it all off when it released in December 2004 as one of the first indie games on Steam and led to the creation of Facepunch.
We try to be player-first and learn from what they tell us. We don’t have conventional management and try to avoid BS - the team decides together what’s best for the game. We expect to fail, learn and get better. We build our games and community relations for the long-term. We think we have a pretty open, welcoming work environment. We’re about 50 people and growing - we have a lot more we want to do. We’re PC-first but interested in other platforms and VR.
About our games:
Garry’s Mod, one of the first major modding and UGC game platforms, is now over 15 years old, with >20 million units sold and still going strong with an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ Steam review (from >700k reviews).
Rust is a multiplayer survival shooter, one of the most popular indie games on Steam ever by player count over the last few years (regularly in the top 10 most played of all games too), ~9 years old and has had >300 content updates now with something new every month. It has a ‘very positive’ Steam review rating (from >600k reviews). It also became one of the most streamed games of all time in Twitch, in its 8th year. We have a close partnership with our vibrant community of content creators, skin designers, mod makers, server operators and more.
We’re also working on S&box, our next-generation game creation and modding platform (and spiritual successor to Garry’s Mod).
We're hiring!
We’re looking for people who are proactive, independent, like working in small teams across different disciplines and who want to have a direct impact on the games they work on. We can offer any resources needed to help make the best games we can. If that sounds interesting, get in touch...
