Euskal Irrati Telebista (EITB) is the first communication group of Euskadi with five TV channels, five radio stations and a website. On May 20 1982, the Basque Parliament unanimously passed the law on the creation of Euskal Irrati Telebista and on November 23 the broadcasting of Euskadi Irratia radio began. Euskal Telebista, on its part, reached the Basque homes on December 31 and since February 16 of the following year its broadcasting was completely normalised. Several years afterwards, on May 31 1986, ETB-2 began, which broadcasts in Spanish. The group does also have two channels of an international nature. ETB Sat began on May 2001 and it can be received FTA (free-to-air) through the ASTRA satellite in 87 million homes all round Europe, while in the Spanish State it can be watched in the Digital + platform. Canal Vasco, on its part, is a means that has been specifically thought for America, which mainly reaches the television viewers through American cable and DTH companies, and which reaches the whole world through the Internet thanks to the Canadian company called JumpTV. With the arrival of the digital age, EITB extends its offer with the arrival of ETB-3 (October 2008), a channel mainly addressed to children and young people, though it does also broadcasts cultural contents. It is broadcasted completely in Basque through the DTT. The EITB Group does also have five radio stations that go beyond the 300.000 listeners per day and that are a clear indicator of a lively, modern and close radio. Euskadi Irratia is a generalist radio station that broadcasts in Basque, Radio Euskadi broadcasts in Spanish, Radio Vitoria is the radio of reference in the territory of Alava, Gaztea and EITB Musika. On October 2008, launched a new eitb.com website, providing online coverage of all of the Group’s initiatives. It is a new channel available in four languages (Basque, Spanish, English and French) with a strong presence of audio-visual content.
