Carplus Bikeplus is the UK's pioneering sustainable transport NGO supporting the development of affordable, accessible and low-carbon alternatives to private car ownership. It has several roles including advocacy, research and development. Carplus Bikeplus promotes shared mobility - particularly car clubs, and bike sharing - as a complementary service to public transport. The organisation works with others to explore ways to capture the benefits of new technology and support behavioural change. Since 2007, Carplus has commissioned and managed an annual survey of car club members, supported by car club operators. As the national accreditation body for car club operators, Carplus monitors the policy effects of car club use on car ownership, car use and on the environment. Carplus Bikeplus is a member of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and of the UITP (the international association of public transport), and actively supports the UITP's Combined Mobility Platform, which promotes the synergy between car-sharing and public transport. Carplus Bikeplus works with Transport for London and Transport Scotland to expand and strengthen the car club network. It also undertakes consultancy and development work for local authorities. Carplus Bikeplus is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity (no. 1093980) with a Board of Trustees elected by the membership. It is funded by its membership fees, provision of services, and by grants from partners and foundations. Carplus Bikeplus is based in Leeds, with an office in Edinburgh.
