The City of Cleveland's Division of Cleveland Public Power provides electric service to approximately 74,000 residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Cleveland Public Power's three-hundred-megawatt system ranks as the largest municipally owned electric utility in the State of Ohio and one of the largest in the United States.
Founded in 1906, we are committed to providing reliable and affordable energy and energy services to the residents and businesses of the City of Cleveland. Our priority is providing excellent service to our ratepayers while operating as good stewards in the community.
Our system comprises three 138 kV interconnections, allowing access to the market's electrical power. The 138 kV circuit feeds 36 substations throughout the City, which, in turn, steps down the voltage to a distribution system of 69 kV, 13.8 kV, 11.5 kV, or 2300 volts, depending on the substation.
Our power and energy requirements are obtained through short and long-term contracts with various regional utilities and other power suppliers through three 138 kV interconnections to the regional grid. The balance consists of three combustion turbine generating units and ten diesel generators throughout the network.
