Michael is the president of C4, a non-profit standards organization dedicated to developing and maintaining standards that assist organizations in using blockchain technology such as Bitcoin. Through C4, Michael co-authored the industry's first security standard - the CryptoCurrency Security Standard - which is being adopted by companies and organizations throughout the industry as the gold standard for implementing and auditing proper security for cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.
Michael is a prolific speaker about blockchains and security, and has addressed both technical and non-technical audiences about bitcoin and blockchains, explaining why and how the technology is transforming the world we live in. Recently, Michael was called upon by the Canadian Senate's committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce to brief them about the security aspects of bitcoin from an investigator's point of view.
Michael is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional with over a decade of experience in the computing and security industries. Michael's career began in the banking industry as a computer programmer. His interest in security drove him into more specialized roles in cryptography, cyber security, digital forensics, electronic discovery, and cyber-crime investigations.
Michael holds degrees in information assurance and security theory, as well as certifications in the fields of digital forensics and information security. Michael has taught classes in digital forensics, information systems security auditing, and computer security.
Michael continues to conduct independent research in the security field and enjoys thinking of new ways to break things.
