Sr. Operations Engineer @ From August 2013 to Present (2 years 5 months) Senior Systems Engineer @ While at Mail.com Media Corportation, currently Penske Media Corporation, I was the lead engineer in architecting, implementing, deploying, and managing many different open source solutions that formed the backbone of our BGP network and our multi-tiered highly available web services infrastructure for the entire Mail.com portfolio of brands which included the Mail.com portal, Jonathan Geller's BGR.com, Nikki Finke's DeadLine.com, and Bonny Fuller's HollywoodLife.com. I was responsible for building a highly available and redundant open source routing and packet filtering platform based on OpenBSD, OpenBGP, OpenOSPF, PF, and related protocols to support these high profile web properties. Another key responsibility was architecting, building, deploying, and managing an open source multi-tiered load balanced web services infrastructure which consisted of redundant load balancers and a virtualized set of Apache web servers served by seperate highly available DRBD backed NFS and MySQL platforms. In addition to this I was also tasked with designing, building, and managing a multi-server ad serving platform based around the de-facto open source ad serving software OpenX which ultimately was able to serve tens of millions of impressions per day and 1/2 a billion impressions per month that powered the Mail.com portal serving more than 15 million registered users and over 2 million unique visitors per day. In support of our proprietary email platform I was also responsible for building a load balanced cluster of spam scanning servers that were responsible for scanning billions of messages in a given year. Most of this infrastructure was served out of our Irvine, CA datacenter which I was also fully responsible for maintaining. On top of this I was also in charge of managing a small team of engineers, devops, administrators, and help-desk staff including remote administrators in our satellite offices in New York and Mumbai.
