For more than 10 years, I’ve worked in the health care industry developing enterprise-grade web applications that bring business and clinical data into the hands of our users. I enjoy thought partnering with business leaders and end users to understand the problems they’re trying to solve, and then architecting and implementing databases and web applications.
Web Application Development:
My preferred development environment is ASP.NET C#. At PeaceHealth I’ve primarily worked on web forms applications with a shared framework consisting of numerous extended and composite web controls. I understand ASP.NET MVC, and have built a couple of systems in MVC3 and MVC4. I’m very good at CSS, and quite proficient with jQuery. I’ve also worked with PHP a fair amount, though the development feels primitive compared to Microsoft development technologies.
Notable Project:
I built a system for generating patient discharge instruction documents and securely emailing them to patients. I did the database design and all development for this system under a very short timeline to meet government meaningful use HITECH requirements. Doctors and nurses heavily use the system, and they rave about how well it works.
SQL Server:
I really enjoy working with SQL Server, and have done much of the work that DBAs do including: performance optimizations, scheduling jobs, stored procedure development, SQL replication, backups/restores, failover clustering, mirroring, and snapshots. I’ve worked with all SQL Server versions newer than SQL 2000. I’ve built numerous web applications that consume data from our data warehouse and real time ODS environments.
Extensive infrastructure work:
Some developers write code and leave the deployment and management of application to the operations team. I’ve worked across both disciplines and understand how web servers, database servers, networking, DNS, and virtualization fit together to deliver fault tolerant web applications to users.
