Software architect with several years of experience in web application design and maintenance and protocol design. I have collaborative experience with people from diverse backgrounds, especially those in the non-technical, medical domain.
As an undergraduate I designed and implemented an Electronic Medical Record system for our School of Nursing to give nursing students a better understanding of the types of EMRs they would experience in the real world. As a graduate, I worked on a project called ohmage which is a phone-based active and passive data collection application to help researchers gather information in situ.
Upon graduating I stayed with omage which has led me to being a founding member of Open mHealth, having a strong role in its design and projection, and becoming the designer and maintainer of its current reference implementation.Software Engineer @ From April 2015 to Present (9 months) Software Engineer @ From April 2014 to April 2015 (1 year 1 month) Software Engineer @ Software engineer for the open-source, health-based data collection software, ohmage. I am also a founding member and contributor to Open mHealth, a specification for opening up health data. I am the creator and maintainer of Concordia, a JSON schema language. From January 2013 to April 2014 (1 year 4 months) Programming Analyst II @ Server Software Developer for AndWellness / Mobilize From March 2011 to December 2012 (1 year 10 months) Graduate Student Researcher @ I did my Masters work here by adding an extension to the already existing AndWellness platform. My extension allowed the system to monitor user's sleep patterns and created a trigger for when the user first picked up the phone in the morning. The trigger is currently being used to launch a survey about the user's previous night's sleep.
I also assisted in the development of a tool which is being used to monitor user's phone usage such as CPU usage, network usage, application usage, and others. I also created an app manager to assist users in ensuring that their phone always contain the most up-to-date versions of their CENS apps. I am also taking a management role in the feedback mechanism that is being created for the AndWellness system. From August 2010 to April 2011 (9 months) Intern @ Managed and helped update the internal asset database following a recent inventory audit.
Designed and implemented in-house software projects. From December 2007 to May 2008 (6 months) Intern @ Self-taught SharePoint and used it to create a document share and workflow system for our department as we were part of the internal corporate pilot.
Took a leading role in developing a new system to rate our vendors. It allowed our other departments to report issues or exceptions with the vendors they dealt with in order to give upper management and ourselves a better understanding of how our relationships with our vendors were evolving. From May 2007 to August 2007 (4 months) MS, Computer Science @ University of California, Los Angeles From 2009 to 2011 BS, Computer Science @ Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville From 2005 to 2009 John Jenkins is skilled in: C, C++, Java, Python, JSON, Linux, Mac OS, Android, Android Development, SpringSource, MapReduce, Machine Learning, Data Mining, Computer Science, Programming, Algorithms, Distributed Systems
