I'm a contract software developer, project manager and engineer, mostly doing web-based applications (what we knew in the late 90s as 'smart-apps') using PHP, jQuery, MySQL, AJAX and all that sort of thing. I've got about 20 years of experience in web apps all the way from your little corner shop website right up to sites supporting hundreds of thousands of users on database footprints approaching 20TB.
I tend to get parachuted into projects to bring planning based on experience, or (on the other side) pull a project out of the doldrums. I'm happy at the coalface just as much as standing up in front of a presentation talking to upper management about strategy.
Other stuff I know about includes basic financial modelling, personnel management and training, project management and operational skills, pre-sales pitching and presentations, after-sales care, legal matters on the Internet, marketing and public relations, product development, and Internet politics.
I prefer Apple stuff (but I'm definitely not a zealot), and use Linux extensively. I believe in the right tool for the right job and won't get prissy about tech if it's what works for you. I've been working with computers since I was 7, had my first program published when I was 8, and had an unhealthy obsession with 8-bit computers throughout the 1980s. I still have a garage full of BBC Micros.
I've been described as "loud" and "Northern"; I'm to-the-point when I need to be, easy-going when I don't. I get quite a lot of repeat work from previous clients, which is nice.

I'm a competent sysadmin on Linux Debian, Ubuntu and Slackware distributions and often carry out network and server installations as part of my work. From June 2006 to Present (9 years 7 months) Photographer @ Alongside my IT work I take a lot of photos. I've been namechecked and my photos used by many bands local to Wakefield and Leeds. I've had my name in CD covers, and quite enjoy doing large stadium gigs. There is of course limits to what I'm allowed to publish online (especially when on assignment) but more recent ones have been acts such as Kylie, Pearl Jam, Manic Street Preachers, James, The Eagles, Scouting For Girls, The Saturdays, Mark E Smith & The Fall, Pet Shop Boys, The Levellers, Darwin Deez, Eureka Machines, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Paleday, Lordi, Jimmy Somerville, Kele Le Roc, The Dolly Rockers, Heather Small, Laura Mvula, and John Cooper Clarke.
I enjoy promoting local musical talent so I'm usually happy to show up to band gigs around the local area and take photos for a few pints if in Wakefield, or for the price of travel and a hot meal a bit further afield. If it's more popular bands and you want specific shots for a specific purpose, please talk to me and we can work out a deal!
I also take a lot of stock photography and take on commercial commissions, and I've had quite a few covers including Leeds Food & Drink Guide 2013 and the Live At Leeds 2013 programme. In the past I've been staff photographer for a few publications including Leeds-List.
I don't photograph weddings. From May 1999 to Present (16 years 8 months) United Kingdom
