I've enjoyed a blessed and fruitful career doing what I love: taking care of athletes, active people and their families, Student Health, covering team sports and endurance events, and teaching young physicians and medical students the art and science of medicine. My career spans the entire spectrum of Sports Medicine: professional athletes (East Coast Hockey League - Columbus Chill, Canadian Football League - Birmingham Barracudas, National Hockey League - Columbus Blue Jackets); collegiate athletes at Division I (THE Ohio State University), Division I-AA (Samford University), Division II (University of West Alabama), Division III (Denison University), and many thousands of high school athletes and 'weekend warriors'.
My passion for education has produced multiple peer-reviewed journal publications and book chapters; case and lecture presentations for myself, Sports Medicine fellows, and Family Medicine residents; service to the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine; multiple regional, local, community and media presentations; community and charity volunteer activities; and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.
I am trained in Medical Acupuncture and enjoy applying this ancient but effective treatment option to various health problems and painful conditions. I've also been privileged to make a difference in the lives of those afflicted or affected by alcoholism and chemical dependency. My personal and professional passion for this has naturally morphed into a new and exciting opportunity: PRxPro, LLC. It promises to make prescribing and using narcotics safer than ever, while relieving the burden of prescribing controlled substances for physicians and patients. See below.
Owner @ I created Rx Alliance LLC dba GOOD MEDICINE to provide Sports Medicine & Wellness services for active patients of all ages. With 25 years of academic Sports & Family Medicine, I've been blessed to present and publish multiple lectures and papers to other physicians, including Sports Medicine fellows and Family Medicine residents. I bring a wealth of experience preventing and treating a multitude of acute, chronic, and overuse injuries. GOOD MEDICINE is a full-service practice that provides preventive services; exercise prescriptions; treatment for acute and chronic illnesses; and diagnosis and treatment for the aches and pains commonly associated with birthdays, exercise, work, and everyday life.
Rx Alliance provides consultations for Safe Prescribing and Addiction Medicine patients and other physicians. Our goal is to promote education, risk-stratification, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment for those suffering from the complex brain disease of addiction. During many years of interest in the 'recovery community', I have witnessed the evolution of Addiction Medicine as a specialty that has grown along with the demand for its services. Since 2003, the number of overdose deaths in Ohio has risen more than 1200%. Over 80% of these OD deaths were caused by opioids, both prescribed pain medications and IV heroin. During 2014, deaths from the Opioid Epidemic rose almost 18%, still killing more Ohioans every day than motor vehicle accidents. The Opioid Epidemic is a nationwide health crisis and a significant threat to all Americans.
I recently earned Board Certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine. I am active in the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and look forward to providing quality care to an under-served and suffering population. From September 2015 to Present (4 months) Chief Medical and Marketing Officer @ Because prescription narcotic overuse, abuse, and overdose deaths have now reached 'epidemic' proportions, physicians have become increasingly reticent to prescribe these drugs. The need for distinction between appropriate prescribing and contribution to abuse and diversion is critical. The State Medical Board of Ohio, DEA, National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, and other enforcement agencies are aggressively pursuing physicians and enforcing new laws and regulations designed to abate this epidemic.
PRxPro is a technology-enabled service platform that relieves the burden of safe prescribing of narcotics and other controlled substances. Pre-treatment risk stratification, patient education, monthly screening, random monitoring protocols, and comprehensive documentation for physicians benefit both providers and patients.
