About Fabio Bier

📖 Summary

★ EXPERIENCE I specialize in the design and development of clean and smart user interfaces for the modern web. With over seven years of hands-on experience as a professional Front-end Developer I've experienced the radical shift towards mobile browsing up close and personal. Responsive design has taken the web by storm, Anyone who's Anyone has responsive front-ends these days. I have built many responsive front-ends and thus have a whole bunch of experience in that field. ★ DESIGN Pretty is indeed a feature and it should be a huge priority. Let's face it, people love using things that look pretty and elegant. Sure, it has to be functional as well, but looking good can definitely add to function. With a degree in User Interaction Design I'm always on the lookout for creeping ugliness and usability. ★ CODE I take pride in delivering not only clean designs but clean code as well. By conforming to the latest standards and using proper semantics I'm saving myself heaps of time fixing cross-browser related issues and basic SEO optimizations. Proper web standards gives me most of these things for free (no guarantees though, I always test). I believe good code is simple and readable code, no inception includes that point you to /dev/null. ★ FRAMEWORKS I often use a framework to jump-start a new project. This is not out of laziness It's about working smart and efficient. Sure I know how to build pretty much anything from scratch, but Open Source projects are often well documented and when a new developer joins the team he/she is often already familiar with the framework. ★ PERSONAL LIFE Being a Geek I go nuts about all things technology related. Sometimes you'll catch me on a slow Saturday setting up a new VPS or writing a bash script for fun. It's quite pathetic actually :-P. I'm a huge music lover and spent much time discovering new bands. I recently became a Dad after our little James was born. I'm also a big Star Wars fan (mandatory geek thing I guess).Front-end Developer @ From July 2015 to Present (4 months) HoofddorpFront-end Developer @ is the leading digital news brand in The Netherlands. My tasks here vary from creating simple HTML and CSS layouts to building entire front-ends using Django's powerful template engine. This business moves fast so I'm always expected to be on top of latest developments. Over at Responsive Design has become the law, nothing passes our 'Definition of Done' until it's fully responsive. It feels great knowing there's such a big audience enjoying our brand on a daily basis. From April 2012 to Present (3 years 7 months) Amsterdam Area, NetherlandsVolunteer @ European based conservation organisation on a mission to change attitudes towards our precious oceans and work to protect the unique life within them. From August 2010 to Present (5 years 3 months) WormerveerOwner @ Websaurus is the brand I use for my webhosting activities. I have always been a passionate Linux user and over the years have gathered quite some knowledge about it's capabilities. I started looking into setting up web servers, simple LAMP stacks to begin with and later on some more advanced configurations (Nginx, uWSGI and so on..). One day I just figured.. why not offer hosting as a service to my clients? After all, I've built their websites from concept to design to the actual product. Why not host it and go full-service. This turned out to be a great idea and I founded Websaurus to give it a name and face. I now also offer standalone hosting. From August 2011 to Present (4 years 3 months) WormerveerFront-end Developer @ At Sanoma Media I am responsible for mainly two titles, those being AutoWeek and Formule1. It is my job to design and develop parts and/or the entire front-end for these large websites. Occasionally I do some back-end work on mainly php (CakePHP) powered sites but I'm also digging into Python (Django) as this will become the new standard around here. From February 2010 to March 2012 (2 years 2 months) Hoofddorp(Web) Designer/Developer @ My job at In de Vingers consists of a variety of different tasks. I'm mainly the web designer and front-end developer around here. But It's quite common I'm working on graphic designs (print media) as well. At In de Vingers everyone is supposed to know a bit of everything. This is mainly due to the fact that we're a small business with lots of ambitions. From August 2008 to January 2010 (1 year 6 months) Assendelft, Zaanstad, The NetherlandsWeb Designer/Developer (internship) @ My internship at 72dpi was a real eye opener and I consider this as the turning point for how I look at web-design and development these days. 72dpi is specialized in usability and are well known for their Web 2.0 approach. Working here made me feel more appealed to usability as well and I think that still shows through in my current work. I'm very grateful to all the guys at 72dpi for sharing their visions with me.
