Courtney directly oversees a portfolio Eli Lilly and Company's corporate philanthropic programs, disaster response and humanitarian aid, and corporate responsibility reporting and shareholder communications.
Corporate Responsibility and The Lilly Foundation @ Corporate Philanthropic Programs – Courtney has oversight for the Foundation’s funding and programming that improves health for people in low and middle income countries. In this role, she balances traditional philanthropy with novel approaches that put to work the company’s scientific and business expertise, resources, and the passion of Lilly employees. This includes strategically engaging employees around the globe in the company’s philanthropy to magnify its impact.
Disaster Response and Humanitarian Aid – Courtney is responsible for Lilly’s company-wide response in the wake of natural disasters and humanitarian crisis, by strategically assessing each situation, and determining how Lilly can deploy its resources – be it financial, product, or employee - to meet needs in the affected area. She leads the company’s two largest product donations programs: Life for a Child (providing insulin to more than 14,000 children with diabetes in over 46 low income countries) and AMPATH (nearly $70 million in products to treat mental illness, cancer and diabetes in western Kenya).
Corporate Responsibility Reporting and Shareholder Communications – Courtney leads a team in the creation of Lilly’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report - which spans the company’s efforts to increase access to medicines for underserved populations, to its environmental and workplace practices, to its supply chain, quality and manufacturing processes, as well as other issues that are important to shareholders. She is leading the company’s first-ever integration of its Annual Financial and Corporate Responsibility reports – transforming how the company communicates about all of the ways it creates value – including social and environmental practices, as well as financial practices. From June 2012 to Present (3 years 7 months) Government Affairs Consultant @ Courtney was responsible for developing and implement state legislative strategies for specific business units. From July 2009 to June 2012 (3 years) Public Policy Analyst @ Courtney was responsible for the analysis of state and federal healthcare legislation to determine impact on business, and make recommendations on company positioning. From 2007 to July 2009 (2 years) Public Affairs Consultant @ Prior to joining Eli Lilly and Company in 2007, Courtney worked as a Public Affairs Consultant at Bose Public Affairs Group, advancing clients’ state and federal policy agendas, through lobbying and advocacy. She also has extensive experience at the local, state and federal levels of government, holding positions in both Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson’s and U.S. Senator Evan Bayh’s administrations.
