I USE MY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE TO INFLUENCE ORGANIZATIONAL GROWTH AND BOTTOM LINE PROFITABILITY THROUGH MANY YEARS OF BUSINESS OWNERSHIP, OPERATIONS, BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, AND CREATIVE SKILLS.
I have owned and operated several businesses since 1984. An entrepreneur at heart I approach a project like it was part of my business. From retail to insurance I have always been able to use my experience to understand what the business goals and objectives are and provide the path to be successful.
E-LEARNING DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING – I have always been on the cutting edge of new technologies and delivery. I started developing computer-based training in 1994 when it was delivered on a floppy disk. I start a project by analyzing and understanding the desired result, design the best approach, develop the course, implement the course and evaluate the effectiveness. I am an expert in Lectora, Photoshop, Captivate, and many other software programs.
GRAPHIC DESIGN AND VIDEO PRODUCTION – I believe that people will learn more if they can use all their senses. I am a visual learner so I am very keen on providing graphics that enhance a product whether it is an eLearning module or a website. Being an artist, I’ve been able to use those skills throughout my life.
PRESENTATIONS – Creating a PowerPoint isn’t all that hard, but creating a good PowerPoint is. Creating meaningful charts, graphics and useful content makes the presentation useful and memorable. I have also created non-PowerPoint presentations for trade shows, websites, and meetings.
PASSION – If you’ve read the above you know I’m passionate about art. I create various types of art – wood, metal, pen & ink, and digital art. Plus I like looking at art whether it’s in a small gallery or at the Louvre in Paris. I also love photography and taking photos on travels around the world and at car shows and vintage races. It keeps me well-rounded and adds to the other skills I have and use.
President @ Human Dynamics (HDI) is an eLearning and performance support consulting practice specializing in designing and building just-in-time knowledge delivery systems and performance support systems. HDI has been in business since 1992 and became a leader in the new movement of computer-based-training. HDI added Performance Support Solutions and worked with many large corporations including Sprint, H&R Block, Hallmark Cards, and Ferrellgas.
The company grew from 2 to 23 associates and increased sales to $2.3 million.
I became a partner co-owner in 1994. My focus as the Executive Vice President was the creative direction and project management. I bought the company in 2008. Project management, graphics, and understanding adult learning theory are the strengths I bring to any project. From June 1994 to Present (21 years 7 months) Director of Learning and Communications @ MutualAid eXchange (MAX Insurance) is a property and casualty company doing business in the Midwest US and Canada. MAX is a faith-based insurance company that uses part of their profits to award grants to people in need.
MAX was one of my clients for several years and in 2010 I was asked to join the company as the Director of Learning and Communications. In this position I provided marketing and communications to 300+ agencies and brokerages and over 30,000 policyholders. During this time I created consistent workflow processes and procedures throughout the company. One of the things I’m most proud of was creating and managing an employee portal from scratch using SharePoint. The MAX portal included many areas to bring distant employees closer to what was happening in the home office.
I improved agent and broker communications through creative video, marketing publications and social media. I also increased client and prospect communications and marketing impact by creating a series of new brochures, flyers, videos, and new websites. From December 2010 to January 2015 (4 years 2 months) President @ Dinkins Co. was my consulting company before I joined forces at Human Dynamics. During this period I taught computer training classes in Word, Excel (actually Lotus 123 too!), and other computer skills classes. I also created logos (LaMar’s Donuts), newsletters, graphic design, technical consulting and created original art for 100+ diverse clients. From June 1991 to December 2008 (17 years 7 months) President / Owner / Operator @ In 1984 I wanted to be in business for myself so I bought a bicycle store in Raytown, MO. This was my first venture into business ownership and I jumped in with both feet. I feel like I earned a Master’s Degree in business ownership. The business was very small and the owner wanted to retire. After buying the business I increased the sales from $125,000 to $425,000 annually. I accomplished this by moving into much larger space, increasing inventory, adding clothes, shoes and additional accessories. Beginning by myself I increased to 7 employees. It was a fun business and I loved the type of customers that were interested in bicycles. From December 1984 to June 1991 (6 years 7 months)
