Major projects include an initiative to support offsite failover & redundancy of our application and database servers, revising our mass data storage system utilizing low cost slow storage based on ZFS, and implementing open source VOIP telephony to lower costs. Rolled out private cloud solution implementing Centos vservers (a userspace predecessor to LXC) and script managed Linux instances at scale. From February 2009 to September 2010 (1 year 8 months) IT Manager @ Responsible for all aspects of IT from phones to servers to helpdesk to special projects at this exciting alternative energy research and development firm. Projects included various electrical and systems challenges for Google Ventures and DARPA projects managed by the mechanical engineering staff. Using binary headers, filename extensions and resource forks, I performed best-effort cataloging by file type, the files in turn were handed over to traditional filetype-specific parsers. The system required full egress/ingress accounting as it was submitted as evidence in a civil suit. This work resulted in a large intellectual property case award for our client (one of the largest ever awarded for a patent infringement/ip case). From 2005 to 2005 (less than a year) Data Analyst / Sysadmin @ Worked in multiple roles, including data analyst massaging various data input formats to our internal Solaris/Linux systems, sysadmin assisting with colocated and on site work, and various helpdesk tasks. Highlight projects include server migration, asset reduction / lease termination of a colo, migrating from dedicated disk arrays to SAN, and manipulating/searching/optimizing extremely large data sets.
