She later attended the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse in California, where she honed her craft and made her professional debut on stage.
Blake's big break came in 1955 when she landed the role of Miss Kitty Russell on Gunsmoke, a part she would play for 19 years. Her portrayal of the feisty and independent saloon owner endeared her to audiences and made her a beloved television icon. Her chemistry with co-star James Arness, who played Marshal Matt Dillon, was a key factor in the show's success, and their on-screen relationship captivated viewers for nearly two decades.
In addition to her work on Gunsmoke, Blake also appeared in numerous other television shows and films throughout her career. She had guest-starring roles on series such as The Red Skelton Hour, The Love Boat, and Hart to Hart, as well as film roles in titles like A Star is Born and Miss Robin Crusoe.
