Since 1986, York Baur has been a dedicated member of the computer science community, holding a BS in Computer Science from the University of Southern California in 1982. York has since dedicated her career to computer science, starting with a degree in 1981 and continuing emphasis through the 3 years of post-doctoral work at the University of Utah.From 1989 to 1993, York was a Postdoctoral Fellowship fellow at the University of Utah where she contributed to the development of several computer science algorithms. From 1993 to 1996, York was a Research Scientist at the National Security Agency. Here she developed algorithms for Signals Intelligence and Privacy Experiment.Since joining the faculty of UC Berkeley in 1997, York has been concentrating on the study of encryption and security. Her current research focus includes the development of efficient and principled methods for secure data transmission over the Internet and other telecommunications networks.York Baur has authored and published over 50 papers in the areas of cryptography, data security, and Internet privacy. She is also a highly sought-after speaker at international conferences on this and related topics.York Baur has a keen interest in teaching and has been a part of the founding faculties of the University of Utah, the University of California-Berkeley, and the NSA Research Laboratory. She is currently a full professor at UC Berkeley.Overall, York has a deep understanding of the fundamental problems that computer scientists face in the area of data security and privacy.
