This research is blend of reinforcement learning and information theory as applied in a humanoid robotic setting. One can observe the autonomous emergence of vergence and tracking behavior in binocular vision when the scene is encoded using efficient coding hypothesis. From January 2014 to June 2015 (1 year 6 months) Frankfurt Am Main Area, GermanyVisiting Research Scientist @ Discussion and collaboration for the on going project on binocular vision at FIAS. Prof. Bertram Shi was my host at HKUST. From May 2014 to May 2014 (1 month) Hong KongMarie Curie Researcher @ As a Marie Curie Reseacher, I was responsible for developing computational models of visual attention primarily for their application in robotics. The three saliency models that I developed in the CoR lab has been well accepted in the robotics community. Stochastic algorithms were used to model visual saliency, which were parameter free and agnostic to the size of the input image. This helped achieve state-of-the-art performance on automatically predicting human eye-gaze and detecting salient regions concurrently which had not been achieved so far.
In addition, I was also involved in teaching Masters students, organizing international conferences and summer schools. My supervision during this period was under Prof. Britta Wrede, Dr. Marko TScherepanow and Dr. Agnes Swadzba From April 2010 to March 2013 (3 years) Bielefeld Area, GermanyVisiting Scientist @ This visit was in continuation with my research at CoR Lab. During my stay at Skövde, I investigated dynamical field theory for modeling visual attention. My supervision was under Prof. Tom Ziemke and Prof. Robert Lowe. From June 2012 to July 2012 (2 months) Skovde, SwedenResearch Engineer @ In this role (as a one person team) I delivered C++ libraries for Object Detection in infrared images. The software was based on the existing state-of-the-art in 2008 for object detection. In the course of developing this software, I carried out extensive literature review and validated the algorithms on PASCAL VOC Image dataset. The experiements were carried out on a a cluster of fifty machines, and resulted in a detailed report documenting the strengths and shortcomings of the underlying algorithm. From September 2008 to February 2010 (1 year 6 months) Caen Area, FranceResearch Assistant @ I was involved in publishing several research papers on biometrics and object recognition during my tenure as a research assistant. During this time, I also contributed to open source projects (Matlab based) and they are being used to this date. In addition to research, I was also involved in organizing conferences, workshops and teaching Masters students at the Faculty of Technology.
