I’ve worked in the Global Services, International Solutions, and Product Engineering areas of the Nielsen Company. These areas provide clients with international data and reports containing global product information. Custom programming (for reporting or analytical tools) and other technical projects for external (clients) and internal use are major components of many of my positions. Most of the positions also required independent management of ongoing projects and liaising with various technical and non-technical members to successfully complete projects. While my general set of technical skills is widespread, I also have a strong ability to communicate and instruct technical concepts to both technical and non-technical people at various levels. In addition to working with other technical resources, I’ve also extensively worked across internal Sales, Sales Service, and Marketing personnel at all levels to gather and discuss technical requirements for most tasks or projects. Sr. Technical Business Analyst @ • Product Engineering position involving defining and detailing business and technical requirements for a major new reporting platform. • Acting as lead technical business analyst for Business Intelligence (reporting) area. • Working with product leadership and technical architects to help refine requirements for the Business Intelligence and Core platform areas. • Working with QA team to review test cases and ensure proper testing of the platform in the QA environment. • Defining acceptance criteria for each platform requirement. • Providing subject matter expertise in technical areas where applicable as well as requirements continuity throughout the entire software delivery life cycle (SDLC). • Facilitating design and functional discussions amongst appropriate team members. From October 2012 to Present (3 years 1 month) Sr. Solution Developer @ • Developed product launch tracking application (with dynamic charts and tables and a user friendly interface) for a high level global client using Excel VBA, SQL, and a custom made relational db format. I devised the methodology and plan to give the client exactly what they wanted in the most efficient time frame. • Also developed supporting backend applications to allow an easy method for off shore operational support to be able to process the necessary data to feed the custom application. This new launch tracking system could then be deployed for use with other global clients with interest in tracking product launches world wide. • Developed a custom fully automated matrix report for another large global client.. I received praise for the project being a success. • Contributed and helped to meet revenue target of over $1m. • Worked with off shore resources to create reports in one of our standardized reporting application called Answers Desktop. This required directing resources on specific technical aspects of the development and communicating the report design team’s specifications in a clear manner. • Managed the Nielsen International Solutions Answers Web roadmap portfolio of web reports as well as all development within it. The portfolio contains a standard offering of web reports in addition to several client specific custom roadmaps. Worked with off shore Answers developers in India. From January 2007 to December 2010 (4 years) Greater Chicago AreaSr. Custom Applications Analyst @ • Developed custom web based reports in ASP.NET. The backend originally was Microsoft SQL Server. However, it was changed to an oracle database by the time of deployment. I setup both the SQL Server and the Oracle environment myself internally and developed against it. • This custom web application also provided exports to standard Office applications. It did so by converting the web tables and chart views to XML and streaming it as a file via the web. • Used VB.NET to completely re-create an updated version of an application that can be used to manipulate and change our standard databases. This tool also uses XML to store internal parameters. This db application is still used widely within Nielsen’s International Solutions department to this day. • Developed an application in Excel using VBA and SQL to automate the creation of Excel based snapshot report decks. These reports offer standardized table and charting views for clients. It also creates an automated front end menu for the finished report. This application is supported and extensively used to create such reports in many internal offices worldwide. • Upgraded several internal tools to aid with generating relational data output for our custom web reporting system. • Created an easy to use utility for operations that used Oracle API programming to refresh, create, or delete new data sets into our remote oracle server without the need of a dedicated DB analyst to do the data refreshes. • Assited Client Service in selling toplines as a service. This included aiding and implementing new policies and procedures. • Provided timely estimates and plans to be used in client proposals. • Managed custom report projects to ‘production –ready’ stage • Used knowledge of INFO*Server/Nitro data retrieval API to improve automation of Topline report deliverables and develop new advanced tools. • Wrote detailed user documentation as well as technical manuals for larger applications that I created.
