From August 2013 to May 2014 (10 months) Northeastern UniversityUndergraduate Researcher @ MIT Media Lab Researching and designing new interfaces for LuminAR, a projected augmented reality system (https://www.media.mit.edu/projects/luminar/overview/). Built a touch-based desktop that launches other applications, some of which I developed, such as a dynamic projected ruler that can accurately measure objects in the physical world, a tech demo, and an app that can take snapshots of user-defined portions of physical documents. From June 2013 to May 2014 (1 year) Cambridge, MASoftware Developer Intern @ Zulip Developed various parts of a business communications web app and Android app, while working with a small team of experienced developers and MIT alums. Now acquired by Dropbox. From December 2012 to January 2013 (2 months) Cambridge, MASoftware Engineer @ Valti Spearheading the backend development of an online rental platform for students to exchange dresses on college campuses for a Harvard Innovation Challenge Finalist startup. Working collaboratively with other developers to create a functional, slick website in less than three months. From May 2012 to December 2012 (8 months) Cambridge, MASoftware Engineer @ Consider Worked with team of five engineers to build email 2.0 for work. An email client with the best features of modern apps like Slack, but for synchronous communication on your own terms.• Designed and implemented a new Elasticsearch backend and search UI in the Consider app.• Created services to synchronize labels, stars, and calendar events between Google and Consider over IMAP and Google APIs, and created new UI to display and filter on the data.• Developed advanced editor features like link inserting and emoji auto-completion and contributed bug fixes to Slate, the open-source library the custom editor is built on.• Re-architected data schema to support Groups, a new feature enabling shared company emails.• Ported our React Native app to Android.• Added CodePush to our React Native app so that the development team could release JavaScript changes to all of our users on the iOS and Android apps within minutes.• Added access-control to email attachments to ensure only signed in users who were sent the attachment could open it. From June 2018 to March 2020 (1 year 10 months) Boston, MASoftware Engineer @ edX * Developed edX Insights, an analytics dashboard for aggregate learner data used by course teams.* Re-architected Insight's frontend build system with Webpack and a CloudFront CDN.* Created an automated email service that increased engagement across all self-paced edX courses by 30%.* Created the first independent React & Redux project at edX, studio-frontend, which re-implemented frontend pages in edX Studio to improve the UX for course creators and increase developer efficiency.* Developed components for Paragon, edX's accessible frontend component library.* Worked with a remote team to diagnose and fix critical bugs affecting edX's production websites.* Helped members of the open source community install and diagnose problems with Open edX instances.* Worked on an initiative to install edX on offline servers so that inmates could access courses from inside prison walls.* See all the open-source work I've done at edX on my github profile: https://github.com/thallada. From June 2016 to June 2018 (2 years 1 month) Cambridge, MASoftware Engineer @ Kyruus Developed applications and infrastructure to make healthcare in the US more efficient. Created major features, implemented new applications, fixed various bugs, and monitored data integrity across the whole stack of the web platform used by some of the top health systems in the US.• Created a new API in Flask to manage provider and patient data as free-form JSON in a PostgreSQL database managed with versioned json-schema to accommodate fast-changing customer data requirements without database migrations.• Created an in-house replacement for Mixpanel in Javascript and Flask that logged user-side analytics and errors across all of Kyruus’ web applications.• Worked on a single-page web app for reports and visualizations generated on-the-fly based off of collected analytics using Coffeescript and Backbone.• Built ProviderLineup, a tool that allowed customers find system-wide gaps in specialty coverage.• Ensured the integrity of the platform’s data by making an internal tool that analyzed nightly updates and alerted on significant differences. Assisted clients in-person and over the phone with questions regarding how to create HTML web pages, how to use Blackboard (GMU’s Learning Management Software), and how to use various other software.
