Tony Avendorph retired in 2009 after forty years in Law Enforcement, serving with the Illinois Department of Corrections, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the past twenty years with the Prince George’s County Police Department (MD). Tony was assigned to the Prince George’s County Police Gang Unit since its inception in 2005, and was the Gang Unit’s liaison to the Prince George’s County School System, County Jail, and State Prison Systems. Tony was involved in numerous street gang investigations, most notable Operation Mano Dura (MS-13 RICO case in 2005), and numerous street level investigations regarding the Bloods street gang and local Washington, DC and Prince George’s County gangs. Tony also worked in the Criminal Intelligence Unit (twice), Training and Education Division, and Community Oriented Policing.
Tony offers comprehensive training in Community Oriented Policing, Defensive Tactics (Utilizing the Principles of Judo), Basic Street Gangs, Advanced Gang Investigations, and a Proactive Approach to Interviewing and Interrogating Gang Members. Tony has consulted other law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, and school systems on numerous gang issues ranging from creating and operating a Gang Unit to school and community gang awareness. Tony is a contributing writer for Police Magazine,Tony is the President of Tony Avendorph Associates LLC, a Law Enforcement Training and Consultant business, which also provides Licensed Professional Investigation Services to include Matrimonial, Bullying, and Financial Investigations. Tony credits his 61 years in the sport of Judo as a competitor and instructor with a commitment to excellence and discipline. He has been a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. since March,1969. Tony has a passionate work ethic, and the desire to motivate, inspire, and train others.Tony also conducts motivational speaking to high risk youth, community organizations, and school systems.
