Shaun is the Chief Executive Officer of systems engineering house, Shoal (formerly Aerospace Concepts), where he leads a team of professionals with broad experience and expertise in developing and employing a range of complex systems. He is a practicing systems engineer with particular expertise in aerospace modelling and simulation and conceptual design. His experience spans from aerospace and defence to mining and leisure sports. Shaun sits on a range of company boards, holds multiple degrees, and is published in several technical fields.
Chief Executive Officer @ Shoal is a systems engineering house that works across the defence, science, space and commercial ICT sectors. Over more than a decade, Shaun has led the company in development of sophisticated systems engineering and related capabilities. From June 2001 to Present (14 years 6 months) Canberra Area, AustraliaFounder & Non-Executive Director @ QxBranch, a spin-off of Australian-based complex systems engineering firm Aerospace Concepts, is a quantum computing software and services start-up based in Washington DC, with offices in Hong Kong and Adelaide, Australia.
QxBranch is currently participating in Accenture's FinTech Innovation Lab based in Hong Kong. The program is designed to nurture early-stage companies from around the world that are developing new technologies for the financial services sector with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. From September 2014 to Present (1 year 3 months) Canberra Area, AustraliaNon-Executive Director @ As a member of the Board of Directors, Shaun directed the early technology development and proving operations of the company and investigated fund-raising opportunities. From July 2007 to Present (8 years 5 months) President @ The Systems Engineering Society of Australia (SESA) is a Technical Society of Engineers Australia and the Australian affiliated chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). From July 2014 to April 2015 (10 months) Non-Executive Director @ As a member of the Board of Directors, Shaun has guided Uber Global Pty Ltd from a near start-up into one of Australia's largest and leading cloud services companies. He chairs the remuneration committee and is a member of the audit, risk and compliance committee. From July 2007 to April 2015 (7 years 10 months) President-Elect @ The Systems Engineering Society of Australia (SESA) is a Technical Society of Engineers Australia and the Australian affiliated chapter of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE). From May 2013 to June 2014 (1 year 2 months) Program Director @ The Antarctic Broadband consortium is developing a broadband satellite communications service aimed at meeting the data transfer needs of the entire Antarctic community. The consortium is led by Aerospace Research Pty Ltd, the R&D arm of Aerospace Concepts Pty Ltd, and includes the Australian National University, EM Solutions Pty Ltd, ES&S Pty Ltd, Josephmark Pty Ltd, The Tauri Group in Washington, DC, and the University of Toronto Space Flight Laboratory. From February 2010 to December 2012 (2 years 11 months) Board Member @ Shaun represented the approximately 200 small and medium businesses that are associate members of the RPDE Program. From 2009 to June 2011 (2 years) Non-Executive Director @ As a member of the Board of Directors, oversighted the strategy and activities of one of Canberra's oldest specialist metalworking companies. Since 1981 Metal Design has helped build some of the most iconic buildings in the region including the Snowy Mountains Skitube, the Australian Institute of Sport medical facility, the ASIO building and, most recently, the Australian War Memorial. From 2008 to 2011 (3 years) Chair, National Committee on Space Engineering @ Shaun chaired a committee of space professionals that acts as a focal point for space engineering matters within Engineers Australia, including being the public face of efforts to promote space engineering and the lead for policy formulation and advice. During his term as committee chair, Shaun briefed the Federal Senate on Australia's future space needs. From 2006 to 2009 (3 years) Canberra Area, AustraliaDeputy President @ As a member of the national leadership group, Shaun directed the operations of the society in growing and improving the practice of systems engineering in Australia. His individual responsibility was to lead the ongoing development of the national conference series, System Engineering / Test & Evaluation (SETE). From September 2004 to September 2008 (4 years 1 month) Non-Executive Director @ As a member of the Board of Directors, provided governance in achieving ASRI's space technology research goals. From November 2000 to November 2003 (3 years 1 month) Canberra Area, AustraliaPrincipal Consultant @ Shaun provided systems engineering services to clients; in particular, he led the security accreditation activity for the Defence Mobile Communications Network (DMCN), an L-band satellite communications system covering Australia and environs. He also led the company unmanned systems R&D effort which resulted in multiple sales of small tactical UAS to the Australian Army for operational service.
