I partnered with company leaders to create recruiting cultures and talent acquisition capabilities at start-ups, emerging growth and global leaders. From January 2016 to January 2018 (2 years 1 month) Greater Seattle AreaTalent Director @ Microsoft Recruiter and talent leader during the hyper-growth years 8k to 40k employees. Built the infamous Strike Team (first corporate sourcing/research function known to mankind :-)). Grew the team from 1-50 researchers, sourcers, recruiters and interviewers in two years, and together we sourced 1,000s of key hires from our competitors. Fun fact: Earned the badge of "Lion in the Jungle" by the VP of IT who challenged me to stay hungry. I did. From September 1991 to August 2000 (9 years) Greater Seattle AreaTalent Director @ Madrona Venture Group I connect future founders with our investors. I partner with founding teams to get start-up recruiting machines on the right foot from day one. We build talent communities for entrepreneurs and high-performing professionals who wish to contribute materially and substantially to the startup ecosystem. • Interested in career opportunities in the Madrona family? I personally sourced and recruited VPs, CTOs, Heads of Research, and Engineering Principals for Amazon, Google, Wave Broadband, Apptio, Ai2, Blacksky, Spaceflight, INRIX, and lots of emerging startups. Filled over 200 key roles with about 80% retention. From 2011-2016 doubled revenues year over year with a team of ~10 including my co-founders Jennifer VeVea and Steve Haywood.Fun fact: I was the team "Defibrillator", so named after for reviving 8 declined offers in one brutal quarter (I should also mention an additional 8 declines that I failed to revive, which probably earned me the secret GrumpyFace moniker). From April 2004 to January 2016 (11 years 10 months) Seattle, San FranciscoTalent Partner @ IGNITION PARTNERS Ignition was born in 2000. I was the Founding Talent Partner and the measure of success was my ability to teach recruiting self-sufficiency to our portfolio leadership teams. From 2000-2004, I taught our first-time and seasoned Founders, CEOS and VPs to hunt and close key talent (my end goal was not to fish for them, though I did a lot of that, too). I taught leaders how to interview candidates in a way that revealed high potential superstar performers that would excel in the wild-west of start-ups. I developed Ignition's talent brand, created our recruiting CRM/ATS (one of the first-ever cloud-based ATS solutions called Dataweb). I cultivated and nurtured relationships with hundreds of independent recruiters and search firms, created an Ignition sponsored a Seattle talent community/pipeline of 1000+ Founders, C-suite execs, VPs of Sales, CTOs/VPs of Eng and software engineers, many of whom became leaders in our portfolio and have gone on to grow the Seattle tech scene. I recruited, hired and trained recruiters within our portfolio in hand-to-hand combat. While I was teaching everyone to fish, we had to keep the trains on time, so I personally recruited and built teams for ~20 early-mid stage portfolio companies in wireless and software, including Avogadro (acquired by Openwave), UiEvolution, Seven, Docusign. Fun fact: In 2000, the concept of VCs having talent partners (recruiters) on staff was in beta, total greenfield. I have the scars to prove it. Best career decision of my life.Fun fact: In 2009-2011, I was part of the consumer team with Brad Silverberg, Chris Howard, and Michelle Goldberg. I helped Chris and Brad lay the groundwork for what would become Fuel Capital, a major seed player in San Francisco. From April 2000 to September 2011 (11 years 6 months) Greater Seattle Area
