After having worked over 20 years in the defense industry I made a transition in 2010 to the commercial sector. While in defense I accumulated experience in both Operations and Project Management and managed many large-scale international projects in both domestic and international environments. I have extensive experience managing engineering and technical projects and managing stakeholders in mature and large multinational organizations. To bridge my transition to the commercial sector, I completed a full time International MBA at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) Business School in 2011 and then worked briefly as a Freelance Consultant where I managed projects in both the Financial Services and Computer industries. In 2012 I joined the Avanade Netherlands team where I am began working as a Delivery Management Consultant delivering business technology solutions using Microsoft products. In April of 2015 I moved over to lead the Avanade NL Data & Analytics (Business Intelligence) service line.

Data & Analytics Service Line Lead @ Lead a team of Data and Analytics (Business Intelligence) consulting professionals that delivery the full range of Microsoft BI solutions (from data warehousing to visualization and advanced analytics) for companies located in the Netherlands. From April 2015 to Present (9 months) Group Manager, Delivery Management Consulting @ The Manager performs Project Management including Workplan Development, Scope Management, Workplan Management and Issue Management. The Manager applies Business Acumen and Financial Management to project delivery (typically projects between 250-1000+ mandays in size). The Manager assists with sales and marketing including estimation and negotiation. Additionaly, the role is the point of contact for users with business questions, driving communication and training, support delivery initiatives and work with teams to align with other Delivery Management and Avanade strategies. The Manager is also expected apply both Systems Integration Skills and/or Technology Consulting Skills across the project lifecycle. From September 2012 to April 2015 (2 years 8 months) Almere Stad Area, NetherlandsManagement Consultant @ Provide freelance management solutions in Management Consulting, Change Management, Interim Management and Project Management. From September 2011 to July 2012 (11 months) Nijmegen Area, NetherlandsProject Manager @ Project manager to produce an innovative Mobile Solution to facilitate Social Learning, Social Feedback and Talent Management. In addition to overall Project Management, also accountable for developing the business case, financial management, operations, product development (scrum process) and supporting business development. Ryan also partnered with universities and multinational corporations to conduct market research and pilot studies with the beta version of the product. The solution was successfully launched internationally in March 2012. From September 2011 to May 2012 (9 months) Associate Partner MetisGRC @ The partners of MetisGRC asked Ryan to conduct research on the landscape, drivers and implementation challenges of financial institutions incorporating Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) factors and processes into their organizations. This research formed the basis for his MBA thesis and the backbone for a project to develop a new business proposition that expands the company’s service beyond their previous risk management and governance portfolio to include the full range of ESG consultancy services. In 2011, the company began offering their new service portfolio to their clients in the Netherlands and Singapore. From September 2011 to January 2012 (5 months) Site Director (Commander) @ As Site Director (commander) at Royal Air Force (RAF) Fairford, Ryan managed a diverse organization of over 450 civilian, Ministry of Defense (MoD), contractor, and active duty military members providing full spectrum operations, logistics, communications (IT) and engineering support at the U.S. Air Force’s single Forward Operating Location for heavy bomber aircraft in the European theater.
As director, Ryan was responsible Project Manager for implementing an 18 month USAF Lean Project (Six Sigma) that involved reducing the organizations operating budget by over 40 percent ($20 million), while ensuring no degradation in mission capability. He was involved with the project from inception and managed the entire implementation process, which included the reduction of over 150 contract and MoD employees and the departure and relocation of all 275 active duty military members. Additionally he managed the creation and hiring process for over 20 new positions and the “civilianization” and contracting required to accomplish the mission-essential work previously conducted by military members under the new lean construct.
Ryan was also responsible Project Manager for a number of other large projects to include: the deployment and implementation of Microsoft SharePoint throughout the organization and subordinate organizations, the installation and deployment of the USAF Weather Agencies Next Generation Ionosode System (NEXION) used for characterizing the ionosphere to improve forecasting, the implementation and deployment of VoIP, base-wide wireless expansion to include the entire airfield to support aircraft maintenance activities and the deployment of an installation security enhancement solution. Additionally, he was responsible Project Manager for hosting the world’s largest military airshow (Royal International Air Tattoo) in 2010, which showcased over 300 international aircraft to nearly 200,000 visitors. From August 2007 to August 2010 (3 years 1 month) Director & Project Manager @ Ryan was responsible Project Manager to develop and direct an Air Operations Training Center with the goal of training new members joining one of NATO’s 9 Air Operations Centers on ICC or their Air Resource Planning and Operations System (ERP solution) and associated software. This system was used to produce and execute all NATO Air Operations Plans and to conduct all air Command, Control, and Communications. As part of this project, he managed a team that developed the curriculum and courseware for a 2-week Basic Course and a 1-week Database Manager’s course, which both ended with a full-scale simulation exercise. As Director, he managed a faculty of over 20 instructors and the successful completion of 5 courses certifying over 100 NATO members and establishing the organization as the premier NATO Air Operations Training Site.
Additionally, while deployed as Chief, Airlift Coordination Cell for the Air Task Force at Kabul, Afghanistan, he was responsible Project Manager for a project to expand NATO airlift operations to western Afghanistan. This project included all planning, coordination and security measures required to open and sustain 5 new airfields to conduct operations. This high-visibility project received NATO Secretary General oversight. From June 2004 to August 2007 (3 years 3 months) USAF Officer, Pilot--T-37, T-38, KC-135R/T, C-12F, Engineer, and Project Manager @ Held various flying positions in the USAF. Logged over 3,000 hours flight time and 230 hours combat/combat support time. Achieved the following ratings: Instructor, School-house Instructor, Central Flight Instructor Course Instructor, Evaluator. Recognized multiple years as Pilot of the year and awarded the Lance P. Sijan Leadership Award for All of NATO air component. From 1990 to 2007 (17 years)
