Data Engineer @ From June 2015 to Present (7 months) Insight Data Engineering Fellow @ Developed an app to process, analyze and view cab geolocation data. The app allows one to query the data to know cab occupancy, pickup and drop off profiles by time of day and day of week. The real-time component displays cab locations for available cabs in various neighborhoods as they move through San Francisco (historical data being played back in real-time).
Technologies and Tools used: Kafka (message broker), HDFS, Hadoop (batch storage), Hive and MrJob (batch queries), Apache Storm (real-time processing), HBase (Data Store - serving layer), Flask (UI).

Developed an app that allows the user to manage a personal movie database using data from the
Rotten Tomatoes API. Used SQLite database for data storage and manipulation. Also developed a
Todo list app.
Implemented a collaborative filtering algorithm on a public book data set (approx. 280,000 users) to
generate recommendations for users based on rated books and similar users’ preferences in the
data base. From August 2014 to January 2015 (6 months) Student @ Courses Taken:
CS161 - Design and Analysis of Algorithms: Binary search trees, heaps, hash tables, graph algorithms, dynamic programming, greedy algorithms, amortized analysis.
CS107 - Computer Organization and Systems: C data representation and memory organization, floating-point semantics, machine-level code and runtime performance.
Fault Handler: Developed a fault handler in C that analyzes the runtime stack and that prints a symbolic backtrace starting from the point of crash. Also implemented a C library for allocating memory on the heap to mimic functionality of malloc, realloc and free. From April 2014 to September 2014 (6 months) Project Manager / Energy Analyst III @ Managed several key energy projects spanning commercial buildings, airports and municipal facilities totaling more than $1 million in revenue.
Strong knowledge of analytical approaches for automated anomaly identification large scale energy data and utilization of business intelligence tools such as MicroStrategy and IBM SPSS modeler
Analytical contributor to conceiving product enhancements, innovative approaches for operational improvements and driving operational efficiency within the organization From April 2011 to April 2014 (3 years 1 month) San Francisco Bay AreaEnergy Engineer I / II @ Developed regression based techniques using metrics like outside air temperature, occupancy and time of day to calculate annual building energy consumption from utility data.
Performance of feasibility analysis, energy savings and financial analysis of identified energy efficiency measures. From December 2009 to October 2011 (1 year 11 months) Energy Engineer I @ Assisting in Commissioning (Cx), Retro-Cx, and Monitoring Based Cx services. From November 2009 to December 2009 (2 months) Research Assistant @ FREEDM is a Generation III Engineering Research Center established by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The center is supported by an initial five-year $18.5 million grant from NSF and is headquartered at NCSU
Worked as a task leader and designed an intelligent energy management system (iEMS) for managing the plug in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) loads at a parking deck in a smart grid environment. Simulated the parking deck in Simulink and demonstrated end system using communication enabled by ZigBee nodes interfaced with a Labview GUI. Accumulated work has been compiled into a research paper and has been presented at IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting (PES GM), July '09 From August 2008 to August 2009 (1 year 1 month) Research Assistant @ From 2008 to 2009 (1 year) Teaching Assistant @ Teaching Assistant for:
Agents Based Mechatronics
Basic Electrical Engineering
Responsibilities:
Grading, Exam preparation, Conducting Labs From January 2008 to December 2008 (1 year)
Computer Science @ Stanford University From 2014 to 2015 Master of Science, Electrical Engineering, 4.0 @ North Carolina State University From 2007 to 2009 Bachelor, Electrical Engineering @ University of Mumbai From 2003 to 2007 Preetika Kulshrestha is skilled in: Data Analysis, Project Management, Smart Grid, Labview, Matlab, SQL, Microstrategy, Microsoft Excel, R, C++, Energy Efficiency, Energy Audits, Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation, Energy Management
