📖 Summary
Staff Software Engineer @ Coherent Inc. Firmware Design and Maintenance for STM32-based products running on deeply Embedded Controller hardware as used by various state-of-the-art Coherent Laser systems. Tools usedbased on IAR environments. Santa ClaraFirmware Design Engineer @ Lansmont Corporation Design all aspects of Firmware for the TI MSP430 and a Windows Software utility used for a Shock/Vibration data logging device. The product is a battery operated, portable data acquisition device with strict power consumption goals. Sensors include 3-axis High-G analog piezo accelerometer (ADC), various environmental sensors through SPI and I2C. Design battery management including charging and monitoring (SOC). The device implements GPS module for positioning and the Telit Cellular modem (AT&T KORE SMS) for remote event reporting while in transit. The device utilizes USB CDC/Custom Bulk communication for data collection as well as device configuration. Designed Firmware for user interface control (face plate overlay, LEDs and Button). The Firmware runs under FreeRTOS, while the Windows Software utility is written in .NET C# and DOT Net Bar. Support the HW team in all stages of development. From August 2013 to August 2014 (1 year 1 month) Monterey Bay CAEmbedded Engineering Group Manager @ GMI Headed a team of 8 Software and Firmware Engineers as a hands-on Engineering manager. Team responsibilities include Embedded Firmware as well as Software design (HMI). Guide the team to provide engineering documentation, including customer specifications, system diagrams, use case and system interactions. Guide team through all facets of development, testing and maintenance, and the typical life cycles of software applications. Foster object oriented concepts and methodologies, including role playing, modeling, scenario analysis and prototyping. Object oriented concepts implemented in modern languages such as C++ / C#. Products are for industrial control and automation which include color measurement and instrumentation, various imaging, spectroscopy and related components. Other component come as industrial AC motor drives, stepper motor drives and high-speed, high-precision closed loop DC servo motors. In addition to team management, design several embedded Firmware in C/C++/ASM for various Embedded boards sub components. Develop custom Kernel to implement hierarchal, state machine based, event driven designs. Controllers include Motorola HC6805, 68K, Intel 386 EX, 8051, C251, TI DSP and Analog Devices DSP (Camera). From January 1997 to December 2005 (9 years) Quality Release Team Manager / Senior Software Design Engineer @ Radionics Inc. (BOSCH) Leader of the Software Quality Team consisting of 6 test Engineers. Team responsibilities include black box testing, white box testing. Guide the team to generate test plans, efficient test strategies, defect identification and tracking, manual tests and test artifact data collection. In time, design and build customized Test Automation systems to enhance regression test reliability and increase coverage. Test sequence through custom scripting and DOS Command shell. Products are for industrial and residential alarm application requiring strict engineering disciplines as it involves life and safety and regulations. I am very aware of the rigors of Software testing and the importance of solid coding and program practices. In addition to team management, other assignments include the design of Firmware for various 8-Bit, resource-constrained processors for cost sensitive products. These products come as Keypads, Displays and auxiliary boards or devices. From 1990 to 1997 (7 years) Morganhill CAStaff Embedded System Firmware Engineer @ Renesas In charge of building reference design kits for a new line of Renesas-IOT MCU, taking MRD Kit specification through various stages of hardware design, development, bring-up and manufacturing. Design the kits to showcase important MCU features, integrate peripherals such as environmental sensors, memory devices, serial and ethernet connectivity and RF (BLE/WIFI) modules. Design for EMI/EMC Compliance and FCC / CE Lab work for approvals.Top-down Project Management include planning, scheduling and coordination with internal marketing, Engineering groups, and external design partners. Handle contract manufacturing houses to deliver prototypes through mass production boards. Activities also include creation of technical collateral documents consisting of requirements document (PRD/SRD/ERD), User Manuals, Application Notes and Management reports. Other responsibilities include writing Firmware in ThreadX for Application sample projects. Create presentations for executive project status, seminars and training lab courses. From October 2014 to December 2017 (3 years 3 months) San JoseMicrocontroller Firmware Designer / Consultant @ IXYS Integrated Circuits Develop Test Firmware for a new line of Zilog/IXYS MCU. The embedded test board is used as a reference design for Zilog customers. The design mixes the Zilog 8-Bit MCU and the IXYS High Power Controller components in a power factor monitoring application. Tasks include board bring-up, Firmware test plans and implementation in bare-metal. Create Firmware design documentation. From January 2013 to June 2013 (6 months) Founder / CEO / CTO @ Imaging Technologies Inc Founder of company to develop capital equipment; complete systems that are designed for industrial automation and control of large-scale printing presses. Build the company from ground-up and lead the team of Engineers and working co-founders’ design efforts to develop and deliver the fully functional product. This involves project management from the architectural design inception through production at all levels of development. The system is comprised of industrial Camera Vision Systems, Motor controller boards, a PC as the Human-Machine-Interface, and various electro-mechanical components that complete the system. The system is highly scalable, distributed controls, with the main backbone connectivity is via Ethernet in both TCP-IP and UDP.Design the Camera Firmware for Image and Analysis, of microscopic printed marks. The intelligent camera is based on TI-DSP6K with the code composer studio IDE. Hardware design task include design and building of 9 types of PCB Assemblies. Hardware design tasks include schematic, board layout, procurement and bring-up. Specify FPGA (Lattice) functionality and utilize external consultant to implement code as needed. Design hardware for a 1.5KV flash lamp power supply system.Create UI/UX specification and lead the team of MS Windows SW Engineers (local and off-shore) to execute the strategy to create MS Windows User Interface Application based on .NET/C#. Emphasis was put usability, scalability while the GUI is aesthetically pleasing. DotNetBar and SQL Express were utilized. Guide the team to implement reusable Software using best industry practices available in C#. Team holds regular peer-to-peer code and design reviews. Implement equipment remote access, to use for both system diagnostics and operator training.Lead the team of mechanical engineers to create standard components and enclosures, perform field surveys and design for custom mechanicals adaptation. Tasks include motor couplings and system mounting. From January 2006 to December 2012 (7 years)
