Vice President @ The Onstott Group The Onstott Group has served the New England region for 20 years as one of areas most successful retained executive recruitment firms. As Vice President, Neil was responsible for new business development and the successful placement of senior sales, marketing, finance and general management executives. From January 2007 to December 2008 (2 years) Business Development @ Altiris - now Symantec Altiris represented the culmination of Altiris' acquisition of the Carbon Copy Remote Control technology from Hewlett-Packard where Neil was an instrumental player in the development and delivery of the Business Prospectus and ultimate "carve-out" of the Carbon Copy business unit. Post-acquisition, Neil led strategic marketing efforts to announce the acquisition. He worked with senior executives in the positioning and messaging of the acquisition to Strategic Partners as well as Gartner and IDC analysts. He was also instrumental in the development and execution of Altiris' Channel Partner Program where he led the execution of Altiris' first Channel Partner Summit. Neil worked along side the Strategic Partner Sales team in the development of accounts such as: CompuCom, EDS, IBM North American Services and Unisys where he built account specific marketing strategy, go to market plans and execution of progams to drive sales revenue. From April 2001 to June 2003 (2 years 3 months) Senior Manager @ Hewlett-Packard While at Hewlett-Packard (previously Compaq), Neil strategically repositioned and revived the Windows-based remote control software brand - Carbon Copy. During this transition, Neil worked to re-position the software technology to remote support applications. Neil led the product management effort developing and executing product positioning, value propositions, national advertising campaigns, re-design packaging and supporting collateral for worldwide markets, waged concerted public and analyst relations campaigns resulting in Editors Choice Awards and leadership positions with leading industry analysts such as International Data Corporation (IDC).
As a relatively small revenue stream for now Hewlett-Packard, Carbon Copy is challenged in the new environment. Sale of the intellectual property and related development team is suggested to senior management. The Carbon Copy management team successfully executed a "carve-out" of the business unit from Hewlett-Packard to strategic partner Altiris, Inc. (now Symantec). From July 1995 to April 2001 (5 years 10 months) Business Unit Manager @ Software Developers Corporation With the emergence of PC-based multi-media technologies, Neil worked with the C-Suite to leverage existing business infrastructure and capitalize on the emerging market. He led the development and executed strategy to build a complementary business to the market leading Programmers SuperShop. The New Media SuperShop was instrumental in broadening product offerings and increasing revenues ultimately leading to the sale of the business. From February 1994 to June 1995 (1 year 5 months) Product Marketing Manager @ Interleaf Neil joined Interleaf as the product manager responsible for the "porting" of Interleaf 5 to the Macintosh platform. Interleaf's flagship product was Unix-based with a complex menu structure and user interface. The project required an in-depth review with Bruce Tognazzini, Apple Computers foremost UI authority in addition to a considerable development effort required to re-engineer the product. Neil was sucsessful in early stage market evangelism for the product, inclusive of a key participant in the worldwide launch of Apple System 7. Neil's efforts were also focused on sales and marketing of Interleaf 5 for Personal Computers on a worldwide basis. Neil went on to join the WorldView Product team responsible for one of the industries earliest viewing technoloigies. From 1990 to 1994 (4 years) Director of Business Development @ Esselte/Letraset Esselte/Letraset is the result of Letraset USA's acquisition of Boston Software Publishers where Neil was co-founder and held responsibility for channel sales and marketing at this early stage software business. Post-acquisition Neil was instrumental in the formulation of business direction, market positioning and go-to-market strategy for electronic publishing and font technologies. Additional responsibilities included execution of business development programs and demand generation targeting the reseller community of the emerging desktop publishing market in the Macintosh community. From 1986 to 1990 (4 years) Director, Software Sales @ Sherman-Howe Computer Centers Articulated the market opportunity and accelerated revenue growth in the emerging Desktop Publishing marketplace. From 1983 to 1985 (2 years) Sales Manager @ Leading Edge Computer Products At the inception of the Personal Computing industry, Neil led regional sales efforts for sales of the industries first IBM PC-clone (long before DELL) culminating in responsibility for the development of ComputerLand franchises nationally. From 1981 to 1984 (3 years)
