I have been building custom data science solutions using mathematics and engineering tools for business applications since 2005. In addition to freelance consulting, I have cultivated my love of data driven problem solving with an ever growing array of mathematics and programming based tools. I hold both Science and Liberal Arts Bachelors degrees from Dartmouth as well as Masters and PhD degrees from Upenn; all degrees focused on building problem solving tools through careful construction of both conceptual and mathematical representations of complex problems.
In my current job, I lead the data science team in providing analytical support for business strategy and the implementation of 'data driven' business practices. I also work closely with the VP of Strategic Technology and VP of Business Intelligence to optimize organizational architecture to leverage the complementary skills of human analysts and intelligent software platforms. We also also address corporate KPIs and the incentive alignment of company silos to ensure that departmental goals are appropriately aligned with each other as well as driving the prime directive.
In addition to business level problem solving and team leadership, I enjoy getting my hands dirty--I develop and deploy predictive analytics and recommendation algorithms in python, moving into spark; I also scope, guide and evaluate modeling projects being executing by BI analysts in SPSS. For communicating complex data to business users I leverage Tableau when possible and python packages such as matplotlib/seaborn when I need greater control.

Aspirations: The next generation of executives will be data scientists, persons able to govern businesses that are driven by human analysts who pilot machine learning enabled software; from such a position, I will help build the future.
Senior Data Scientist @ I lead the Data Science team at Cross MediaWorks; working closely with the VP of Business Intelligence and the VP of Strategic Technology, I support executives in all of Cross MediaWorks holdings by providing tools for data driven decision making including increasing visibility of business process through forecasting and visualizations as well making recommendations on corporate level decision strategies and eventually codifying those decision strategies in proprietary software. I am responsible for communicating the value of data science projects to stakeholders including C-Suite executives and members of the Board of Directors. From January 2015 to Present (10 months) Greater Philadelphia AreaLecturer @ Spring term 2015, I taught ESE 605: Modern Convex Optimization. The course had two main components
1) mathematical foundations and algorithms.
2) data driven decision making applications from robotics, operations research, data science and business.
Students were drawn from the Wharton, Penn Med (bio-stats), Engineering and Economics. From January 2015 to June 2015 (6 months) Greater Philadelphia AreaPostdoctoral Researcher @ I am merging my understanding of real-world questions about how to use 'Big Data' to make decisions with my technical background in mathematical problem solving to address highly relevant data driven decision problems such as how to combat the spread of epidemics and how to ensure the robustness of networked infrastructures. From November 2014 to December 2014 (2 months) Greater Philadelphia AreaData Scientist @ Research and Development: data driven business decision recommendation algorithms. From October 2014 to December 2014 (3 months) Greater Philadelphia AreaSocial Network Analyst and Data Scientist @ I apply tools from mathematics, engineering, economics and social science to business and marketing problems with embedded network structure. From January 2010 to December 2014 (5 years) Philadelphia, PAGraduate Research Fellow @ I am enrolled in a Ph.D. program and paid to do research under the "Next Generation of Network Science" MURI from the Office of Naval Research and "Evolution of Cultural Norms and Dynamics of Socio-Political Change" MURI from the Army Research office, among other sources of funding. From July 2008 to November 2014 (6 years 5 months) Athlete @ I played on the defensive line. I also served on the teams community outreach committee, did appearances and was the primary organizer of skills clinics offered by the team. From March 2013 to February 2014 (1 year) Greater Philadelphia AreaData Scientist @ I design and analyze algorithms for interpreting data from market processes. My focus was on feedback and network systems such as brand reputation.
I still consult occasionally. From October 2005 to June 2009 (3 years 9 months) Emeryville, CaResearcher @ Composite materials research with Starfire's proprietary materials. Projects included silicon carbide-carbon fiber composite breaks, molding compounds and injectable materials. I designed and executed scientific experiments including creation of the composite materials, machining and testing physical material properties and analysis of experimental results.
