I've spent my career innovating in PR, technology platforms, and the space in between. Currently, I run Transform Group, which comprises three divisions: Transform PR (the dominant PR firm in the cryptocurrency sector, plus we represent a range of other primarily technology clients globally); SocialRadius (one of the nation's first social media marketing firms), and Transform Events (which has run the Startup Debut media showcase events during CES, SXSW and other major tech conferences, which in 2016 will broaden its focus as Tech Debut).
In 1999, I spun off Internet Wire, which I launched in 1994 as the first Internet-based company newswire, and raised $18 million from top-tier investors including Hummer Winblad and Sequoia Capital. Following a strategic investment by NASDAQ in 2003, the company became Market Wire (now Marketwired) and we sold it to CCN/Matthews in April 2006, which in turn was sold to OMERS Capital Partners in December, 2006, for more than $100 million. Marketwired (www.marketwired.com) is currently the world's third largest company newswire.
That same year, I founded SocialRadius (www.socialradius.com), one of the nation's first social media marketing firms. Our social media client roster has included AT&T, Bombay Sapphire, Constant Contact, David Lynch Foundation, Kawai, Philips, and Shapeways. One of our biggest successes was the launch and viral seeding of the "Yes We Can" video by Will.i.am, which won both an Emmy and a Webby.
In early 2013, I discovered bitcoin and the blockchain, co-founding the first angel group for cryptocurrency investments (BitAngels), the first conference for bitcoin investors (CoinAgenda), and co-founding the bitcoin syndicate with Gil Penchina and Nick Sullivan as part of Gil's Flight VC.
I've also been an active advisor and investor in technology startups
In 2015, I cofounded bCommerce Labs, an ecommerce bitcoin company incubator, and plan to launch my newest platform company, Marketeeria, in November 2015.
Specialties:PR strategy and agency execution, social media, social PR, social media marketing, killer rolodex, board member, VC funding track record, entrepreneurialism, start-up knowledge and experience, writing awards, media placement performance

I have known founder/CEO Fay Shapiro for more than a decade (she headed up media relations at Marketwire), and when she asked me to help her grow CommPro.biz into a global powerhouse, I took on the challenge. From October 2013 to Present (2 years 1 month) Greater New York City AreaCEO @ Terpin Communications (previously The Terpin Group, prior to 2001 sale to Morgen-Walke/Lighthouse, now Financial Dynamics) was one of the first PR firms to specialize in new media and convergence PR, going back to the earliest days of multimedia and the Web. Our early success stories included the launch of the Motley Fool, America Online Greenhouse and a little three-person company called Earthlink.
The Firm is now a global PR firm specializing in emerging technologies and market entry, with a solid portfolio of Web 2.0 and enterprise software clients. We are interested in finding the next AOLs and EarthLinks and helping them get to the next level (sometimes this involves us investing in them, typically in the form of a bridge loan for services - we were written up in an Inc. Magazine cover story for this successful strategy).
Today, Terpin Communications, Inc., is a holding company for Transform Public Relations (our PR division), SocialRadius (social media marketing agency), and Transform Events (creators of Startup Debut, the official startup showcase of South by Southwest and one of the largest showcases at CES since 2010, with new properties in development).
Terpin Communications is a Nevada corporation, and my primary home is in Las Vegas, when I'm not living on a plane : ) Our largest office remains in Santa Monica, CA (on the Third Street Promenade, in the heart of what they now call Silicon Beach), and we have additional market presences in Silicon Valley and New York City. From January 1990 to December 2014 (25 years) General Partner (non-managing) @ BitAngels Fund was the first structured venture capital fund to concentrate on so-called "Bitcoin 2.0" companies doing crowdsales over the Bitcoin blockchain and Master Protocol. The Fund had its first close on March 31, 2014, with a 10,000 Bitcoin investment, which included both Bitcoin and Mastercoin. The Fund participated in the largest crowdsale in Bitcoin history, MaidSafe, with $7 million raised in five hours. The Fund has since reorganized around a Master Protocol focus as the "Dapps Fund" and is managed by David Johnston. From March 2014 to May 2014 (3 months) Austin, Texas AreaFounder, Chairman @ Internet Wire, which I founded in 1994 as the first Internet-based press release newswire, changed its name to Market Wire in April, 2003, when we announced a strategic deal with NASDAQ. We sold the Company to CCN Matthews, the premier company newswire and media directory in Canada, in April, 2006, for $35 million. CCN Matthews subsequently sold to OMERS Capital Partners, one of the largest institutional investors in Canada. Shortly after that acquisition, Market Wire became one word, Marketwire, and is currently the third-largest press release newswire in the world. It is headquartered in Toronto, with offices around the globe. From April 2003 to April 2006 (3 years 1 month) Founder, CEO, Chairman @ I started Internet Wire, which many years later would be renamed Marketwire, in October, 1994, with one employee and a 14.4 baud modem. The inspiration for creating the world's first Internet-based press release network was the number of complaints I received from journalists who would have to retype press releases faxed to them by the incumbent press release newswires of the day, which were only real-time and marginally digital if you were a member of the Associated Press, which meant that most trade publications got faxes instead.
We established a solid distribution network, including real-time feeds to Bloomberg terminals and tens of thousands of editorial organizations, by 1998, all on a barebones staff of five. When I made the decision to raise money (first angel money, then top-tier Silicon Valley venture investors), the wild ride was on, and we grew to 135 employees in 18 months, growing revenues by more than 4,000 percent.
Our angel investors were Osprey Ventures, Montreaux Capital Partners and Mindful Partners. In January, 2000, we closed our Series A round of $18.5 million from Sequoia Capital and Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. Our board members included Ann Winblad, Sameer Gandhi and Chris Kitze.
We started working on the strategic partnership deal with NASDAQ in early 2001. When it closed, we changed the name of the company to Market Wire. From October 1994 to April 2003 (8 years 7 months)
