From February 2015 to Present (11 months) Manchester, United KingdomPrincipal Consultant @ slicedbread utilise a range of technologies, mainly around the Microsoft technology stack (.Net, SQL Server, Sharepoint, Dynamics CRM) to build a suite of solutions for their wide client base. My role is to work across the full lifecycle of each project; starting with the initial engagement to understand the customers’ business needs, developing a proposal that can match those business needs, through to seeing that the full solution is successfully deployed into Production in line with the overall project's commercial and technical needs. My role spans across engaging directly with the customer, through to detailed interactions with the technical teams to ensure the project is delivered successfully to time, cost and quality. I rely upon my many years of IT, commercial and management experience to provide the bridge between the technical and commercial elements required for the role. At slicedbread I am involved in key projects for the company, working with the likes of Marks and Spencer, the Co-Operative Group and BUPA to deliver business critical systems. The systems slicedbread have developed range from high transactional systems that are required to be deployed across 800 separate business units, through to mobile and tablet devices that are required to be used by one user in a range of environments. From 2014 to December 2014 (less than a year) Development Manager @ The role at Stagecoach was to takeover the development management for an existing high performant development department, delivering a business critical and high transactional ecommerce website for the company. From initial team recruitment and resourcing, to working alongside the team on the day to day construction of the site using a range of agile processes (SCRUM, XP, TDD, pair programming, continuous delivery, continuous improvement), through to the operational support in post-live. The solution developed had several aspects to it; a customer facing website which had a 24/7 operational need, and an operational interface the business used to configure the running of all travel activities across this business. We ensured that the website was built to scale, including a fully load balanced solution with a disaster recovery mechanism. The customer facing website allowed for customers to search, book, pay, and manage their accounts, and it was receiving several million requests throughout each day. A high availability and high transactional model was implemented by the team and the architects. The website was available across different regions, and we implemented a translation technology to skin multiple language versions. The site was also converted to support mobile devices. All of this work was done with a team of around 25 utilising a range of technologies and methodologies, but predominantly Java based technologies and processes based around utilising the elements of different Agile methodologies that provided the frameworks we required to deliver in challenging circumstances. It was an very enjoyable time working for the Stagecoach Group, and a time where I was able to absorb, and refine, some great technical and process skills. The role challenged me in several areas and required for me to manage the internal dev-ops team, alongside managing several suppliers and working with the key commercial business stakeholders for this side of the Stagecoach Group. From 2012 to 2014 (2 years) Head of Project Office @ Following a company restructure a new role was created to give a holistic view over all projects involved with the company’s roadmap. 2ergo are a mobile services company that developed award winning mobile applications and services. The role of Head of Project Office was to ensure that all projects were conducted effectively, in line with budgetary constraints and that consistent project management principles were applied through the full project lifecycle. Through this period my role was to ensure correct project management principles were consistently applied; ensuring risks were managed, mitigated and tracked, RAID logs were in place for each project, resourcing was co-ordinated across the wider roadmap and that there was a reactive centre for all escalations. I also worked to bolster the existing Agile (SCRUM, TDD) development processes, ensuring continuous improvement principles were applied by each team. With all of my previous roles to date I have prided myself on having very strong and close relationships with the rest of the business outside of the technical department but this role involved continuously working across all sections of the business to ensure each project successful went through strong engagement, analysis, design, construction, implementation and operational phases. Although still heavily focused on the technical delivery of each project, this role at 2ergo broadened my involvement with each project across the wider business. The work involved me taking responsibility for the management of the company's technical suppliers, ensuring any work undertaken was done in accordance with the commercial needs of the business and that all risks to the business were mitigated through correct contractual agreements and correct project management. From 2011 to 2012 (1 year) Development Manager @ 2ergo were a mobile based marketing and technology company who were very much at the forefront of mobile technology. A publicly listed company, 2ergo's initial product offerings were around SMS marketing. Following their flotation 2ergo made several acquisitions with Broca being one of them. Having worked closely with 2ergo whilst at Broca they knew of my capabilities and transferred me in to the Development Manager role. Whilst at 2ergo I was responsible for the development work produced by the development teams, which consisted of over 40 resources (at its peak) that were building bespoke mobile technology. In 2009 we recruited an IOS mobile development team to build mobile apps for the company. The first app we constructed was the Rightmove iPhone application which won several awards in the industry. This became a standard bearer for the company and over the following years we developed a range of widely recognised mobile apps; Arsenal iPhone, Fox Business News iPhone, ESPN Goals iPhone, ESPN Goals Android, Fox Business News iPad, Evostik iPhone to name a few. In conjunction with mobile app development we constructed several enterprise scale mobile websites, with the biggest two being Fox News and Rightmove. 2ergo were also responsible for enterprise solutions such as the Orange Wednesday Cinema ticket coupon solution and built messaging engines serving over 5 million messages a day. My work at 2ergo was to oversee the development function for all these activities. Ensuring the development process was maintained (introducing several Agile processes through my time), resourcing was correctly aligned, the technology chosen matched the needs of each project, the development teams were managed correctly and that the development side of the business was inline with the commercial side of the business. The technologies used for this role were: iOS, Android, Java JEE, Spring, Hibernate, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Agile, TDD, HTML5, Javascript and more From 2009 to 2011 (2 years) Development Manager @ I was recruited into Broca at the conception of the company to resource and manage a small technical department responsible for taking a product vision, that was residing only in a white paper document, through to an enterprise scale working solution that would operate in the mobile security sector. The role required for me to work directly with the inventor (Director of Technology and Innovation) to construct the technical roadmap, and then to deliver the technical roadmap with the technical teams under my guidance. The product Broca constructed was an encrypted SMS mechanism that would provide a mobile transport method for secure activities where user authentication was paramount (mobile payments, voting, secure message transmission etc.). The product was aimed at the enterprise market so our development focus was to build a product that worked across the largest number of mobile devices, ensuring scalability at all times. This role utilised my years of development experience and man management to build a greenfield solution in the secure mobile industry. The work at Broca involved me devising a company product development strategy, hiring and managing several teams around a structure conducive with the technical and operational needs of the product, and in conjunction with the commercial requirements of the business. The Development Manager role at Broca brought a commercial side to my previous technical and man management experience, and it provided me with several years of technical experience in the mobile industry. The main technologies used with this role were: C#.Net, SQL Server, MSMQ, J2ME, SVN, Encryption, CDMA, Bugzilla, Sharepoint, UML, OOA, OOD From April 2006 to April 2009 (3 years 1 month) Development Team Leader @ At Caudwell Communications I was promoted to Team Leader of the bespoke development team, and accountable for all delivery out of the team. Utilising my years of successful development experience this role required for me to combine technical development management of the key bespoke development projects, alongside working with the senior management to provide technical input on decisions.
