A member of the university senior management group, I provide strategic direction for five senior managers who with 38 staff provide professional services to the best modern university in the UK.
I am strategic lead for marketing strategy and planning, corporate communication, international and UK student recruitment and admissions and university-wide web services and employ a significant corporate budget.
Key achievements in this role so far include:
- Three HEIST Gold Education Marketing awards - 2012 and 2013 for best student recruitment campaigns which delivered excellent recruitment performance and in 2013 for Best Internal Communication Campaign aimed at the responsible use of social media by staff and students.
And in 2014 four HEIST awards for Best Student Recruitment Campaign, Innovation and Thinking, Business Engagement and International Initiative.
- Twice short listed for Marketing/Communication Department of the Year in the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (2012 and 2014)
- Reviewing the Directorate structure successfully integrating the communication function and delivering a new integrated service to the university.
- Delivering a university-wide re-development of the website and social media strategy on time and with no additional investment which has led to significant and demonstrable performance improvements.
- Developing and successfully introducing a new university brand identity From December 2010 to December 2014 (4 years 1 month) Member @ Member From 2007 to December 2014 (7 years) Head of Marketing, Recruitment and Communication @ I was selected and appointed by a Board-led recruitment panel to launch the new University of Cumbria brand and develop and lead the new university marketing, recruitment and communication service.
Key achievements in this role include:
• Leading and successfully delivering the launch of the University of Cumbria brand into UK and international markets.
• Developing a new recruitment strategy which included a new strategic approach to recruiting part-time students. This won a prestigious Times Higher Leadership and Management Award for best student recruitment campaign 2010.
• Delivering new on-line services that significantly improved the enquiry and applicant experience.
• Proactively led the successful review of the university Access Agreement, working with the Vice Chancellor, stakeholders across the institution and OFFA. From August 2007 to September 2010 (3 years 2 months) Head of Marketing, Recruitment & External Relations @ Employed by the Vice Principal (Academic Development) to lead the creation of a new marketing and recruitment service as part of a major college restructure.
My key achievements in this role included:
• Planning and successfully delivering the restructure/merger of three university services to create a new integrated marketing and recruitment service which was short listed for or won three national industry/sector awards.
• Successfully led the development and delivery of the Board and Privy Council approved University of Cumbria brand.
• Directing a successful project to transform university admissions services, introducing new IT systems and on-line business processes. From January 2004 to July 2007 (3 years 7 months) Head of Marketing & Communication @ I was recruited by the College Principal to provide strategic direction and lead and develop the marketing and communication team at one of the UKs largest colleges of further and higher education.
My key achievements in this role included:
• Devising and implementing a corporate marketing strategy in 2001 which received a HEIST Education Marketing Awards Special Commendation.
• Developing and leading a marketing and communication team, which won eight national or regional awards.
• Through a sustained marketing strategy improved recognition of the College corporate brand in key local markets by 16.6% and successfully launched range brands for the Bradford 6th Form Centre and Bradford Business School. From December 2000 to January 2004 (3 years 2 months)
