Transformed the HR group, focusing on relationships with department managers and employees in an “HR Business Partner” model where employees have a single point of contact. They produced engineered steel for automotive, appliance and specialty markets from raw materials to cold-rolled product. I began in labor relations, being responsible for mediating contracting out issues for five local unions and day to day employee relations for two locals (maintenance/trades and finishing). I moved to the HR division and recruited metallurgists, computer processing controllers, and engineers, worked on quarterly succession and High-Po development plans and managed the mentoring program. From June 1989 to December 1998 (9 years 7 months) Cleveland, OHHR Practice Leader @ Kaiser Permanente Led region-wide people initiatives for the Northern Region of KP. These involved functions or departments that were restructuring, expanding or contracting, where the need was to project-manage the restructure. From January 2011 to March 2012 (1 year 3 months) Oakland, CADirector Human Resources @ Goodrich HR management of the Landing Gear Division, which included Manufacturing and Services for 7 facilities in US (Cleveland, Ohio and Tullahoma TN), Ontario, Canada, and Poland. Resolved a two-year-old strike, negotiated new labor agreements, coordinated multiple HR groups to report on the same metrics and pull in the same direction (this is more difficult between Canada and US than one would ever imagine). Created a team to research excessive turnover and present communication, development and retentions options to senior leadership.
