Katharina is a passionate and engaged citizen of the world. She originally hails from Germany but has lived in six different countries. At 15, Katharina moved to Russia. She studied at a village high school and lived with a local family. Due to a passion for evidence-based research and analysis Katharina’s ultimate goal is to become a leader in the public or private sector for making complex systems more efficient and programs more effective.
In Germany, Katharina studied Political Science and Macroeconomics at the University of Mannheim. She continued her quest for knowledge at the University of Melbourne in Australia where she began a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Management. When the University at Albany awarded her a full scholarship in recognition of her excellence in Field Hockey, Katharina seized the opportunity to study at the nationally ranked Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy. She has continued to develop her interest in health policy, particularly the reform of the American health care system during her tenure at the Rockefeller College.
In January 2013, Katharina was granted the six-month Women & Public Policy Fellowship from the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society. She was placed at the NYS Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, where she supported the Waiver Unit in developing a managed care system to improve care coordination and delivery for New Yorker’s with long-term care needs. Katharina envisions a future where she is able to improve peoples’ lives by developing a strategic framework for cost-efficient and effective systems.
