I have been very lucky to have met some incredibly intelligent and motivated people during my time in the SF Bay Area. I've been tinkering with electronics and computers since I was a child and have fallen in love with the passion for technology that exists in Silicon Valley.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering and love prototyping using FPGAs and MCUs.
Some of my more memorable hardware projects are a speech recognizing robot using an 8 bit MCU with just 1kB of RAM, and this 2D DCT Core for a JPEG encoder: https://sites.google.com/site/jgencoder/
I have worked as a devOps engineer for a startup search engine and have enjoyed orchestrating scripts that run simultaneously across 1500 compute nodes.
I build web apps and mobile apps.
I have used the Meteor farmework (Node/Javascript), perl, python and Java to build some great things.
I embrace entrepreneurship and enjoy the business aspects of a company as much as the technical ones.
On my spare time I am rebuilding a classic car.
Senior Software Engineer @ ClassPass is on a mission to make the world a little bit more right-brained. I'm excited to be part of the growing software engineering team and I am anxious to build great things! From May 2015 to Present (8 months) San Francisco Bay AreaSenior Software Engineer & Lead Android Developer @ fitmob is redefining the way you workout by offering access to top-rated studio classes and fitmob-exclusive workouts rooted in fun, results and community.
I worked closely with team members using a high paced SCRUM methodology with 1-week sprints. I developed public facing and internal features for the web in Python and enhanced the in-house Java payments API. I also developed the fitmob android app releasing the initial version one week after joining. The fitmob android app would eventually provide a rich UI that allowed the user to find workouts and gyms within their surrounding geographical area. From November 2014 to May 2015 (7 months) San Francisco Bay AreaOperations Engineer / Android & Frontend Developer @ blekko is a consumer facing search engine focused on delivering high quality, relevant, spam-free search results. We provide results similar to Google and Bing, but with some extra sauce: blekko can categorize your queries and provide thousands of vertical search engines via the use of operators we call slashtags. We are able to do this reliably with a significantly lower footprint than Google and Bing via our use of a specialized in-house database.
At blekko, I have written beautiful, useful, scalable code in Perl with some python and javascript sprinkled here and there. Most of my time was spent writing tools to monitor data such as bot and partner traffic, network health (switch health, latency, single points of failure), server health (temps, disks, memory, power supplies), and our in-house analytics database.
Memorable projects include:
- Receiving and bringing up 1500 servers at a new data center in just two weeks. I did everything from racking, running fiber and writing custom scripts to query the network gear in order to properly identify every machine and bring them up using a PXE boot environment.
- I developed scalable tools to accurately identify and alert on defective units in our pool of 18000 disks and over 15000 memory modules. Imagine running a script and immediately having a detailed report of every defective disk, memory module, fan, or power supply. The report includes any repair history and comments left by other in-house repair tools.
- I also maintained the Izik Android/iOS app for blekko and developed a native Java app for their Rockzi trending news search engine.

- I developed a unique method for placing a persistent search bar on an Android device.
- I was able to pitch and launch a news/ad feed API integration with a large mobile carrier bringing our Rockzi news search engine to the eyes of tens of thousands of users. From November 2011 to November 2014 (3 years 1 month) VMware/Microsoft Network Administrator @ Managed a Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, MS SQL, and VMware vSphere environment.
Identified network security risks, implemented custom monitoring solutions. Developed VBScript interfaces to Nagios and Splunk running on linux VMs on top of ESXi.
Memorable projects include:
- Data replication across WAN and LAN using vRanger/vReplicator software from Quest.
- Multi-WAN Hardware Network Load Balancing to connect remote offices.
- Developed monitoring dashboard using Google Charts API to report on disk utilization on Windows workstations.
- Managed Cisco ASA firewall/VPN appliance
- Implemented SonicWall CDP (Continuous Data Protection) backup
- Managed Nortel Networks telephony
- Redesigned controllersgroup.net integrated with Facebook, Careerbuilder, Yahoo HotJobs and LinkedIn.
- Configured nagios and Splunk on Linux machines to monitor Windows network. From August 2008 to November 2011 (3 years 4 months) Team Lead Technical Support @ I helped Controller's Group acquire this business in 2009 and led a team of technicians between 2009-2011. I was at Action from 2005 to 2008 before joining Controller's Group in 2008 and returned to manage the location after the purchase.
- Boosted productivity by implementing time saving technologies such as network based (Acronis) disk cloning, and cloud based team management using Google apps.
- Realized cost savings by consolidating servers using free VMware ESXi technology.
- Reduced downtime by shifting to Linux based workstations and running Windows only in virtual environments.
- Built custom rackmount servers, workstations, gaming systems, HTPC computers for local companies and individuals such as O2Micro, Fujitsu, Microsoft, Yahoo.
- Implemented an e-commerce solution integrating the POS, online shopping cart, and shipping carriers. Easily managed from one central location.
- Diagnosed daily problems for local companies and individuals involving DOS, SunOS, Linux, Microsoft, and Mac operating systems on a wide range of different hardware. From October 2005 to November 2011 (6 years 2 months)
