The best feeling is to wake up each morning and actually look forward to going to work, to seeing your colleagues, and doing a job that you're great at and that you enjoy. I mean, since you're going to be spending most of your time during the day at work, you should ideally -like- what you do.
I relocated to the Netherlands (Amsterdam) from the hectic automotive racing world of Italy. Immediately I felt at home here and fell in love with the country, the people, the culture and the history. The weather? Meh, it's a trade-off.
At GoldenGate I had an extremely challenging job, working for a fast-growing company on a team of close, talented people. I LOVED it. Every part of it. The late nights, the odd, complicated growing pains, the impossible requirements with the biggest victories, and even my tiny working space.
It was the PEOPLE that made the job so excellent. People that actually LIKED each other and were friends both at work and after. People that were world-class at their jobs but like to grab a beer together after work.
I can meet any challenge, I have an incredible breadth and depth of experience, knowledge and training, but I'm not your typical "I.T. guy". I actually care about my colleagues and always go far above and beyond for them, as well as the customers. I'm a very gregarious and social person, always smiling, positive, happy. Not that "strange, awkward guy that works in the IT closet."
So if there is a company out there with some great people that could use a true team member, I think we should talk. Send me a message at idanyork at Gmail or just call me.

I had been working since a very young age (selling newspapers etc, door-to-door since age 8) and developed a strong self-motivating work ethic. This opened the door for me at the printing company which produced a weekly newspaper.
This was before the digital age, so I learned analog photography and became a photo-journalist, reporting stories and supplying copy and self-developed prints.
I learned the entire photo lifecycle from camera to print, not only for 35mm, but also for full-size newspaper negatives and plate-making.
I leaned typesetting, and how to create hand-set plates for a Heidelberg windmill printer. I made business cards and flyers, and still today, I love letterpress and the tactile feel of hand-made paper and printing.
I was very fortunate to be able to learn this trade and work with a fantastic office full of people that I think of fondly, even after all these years.
Thank you all for the long nights, the sleepless weekends, the tears, the laughter and making me feel like I was part of a family. I look for these qualities in every company I work for and every job i do. Thank you with all my heart. From August 1976 to September 1980 (4 years 2 months)
