Critical facility building design expert for extreme energy savings.
As Smart Technology Director at BEST/HVAC Mfg, I am driving the next huge energy efficiency wave for HVAC systems that will lead to affordable smart buildings. We are producing the industry’s most energy efficient air handlers using axial fans engineered with advanced acoustical physics. Our AHUs and fans recapture common wasted energy for greatly improved efficiencies. Our smart devices control extremely low air flow rates for the next generation of VAV boxes. We are bringing smart, high performance building technologies to cut building energy consumption in half.
My career covers over 30 years of technical construction management, including 20 years in biotech and pharmaceutical engineering roles. Major construction projects included western USA’s largest lab building, many cleanrooms, and the world’s largest biotech research facility.
As Senior Mechanical Engineer for over 12 years at Genentech, I standardized high performance facility designs for energy, maintenance, and operational efficiency, and implemented integrated building design strategies that delivered three Energy Star buildings. The efficiency and reliability improvements I championed continue to provide over $7M in annual operating cost savings for Genentech/Roche.

Smart Technology Director/Business Development @ BEST (Buildings Engineered with Smart Technology) is dedicated to eliminating common HVAC system energy losses to cut building energy usage in half and more. We are commercializing innovative next generation products designed by our high performance thought leader team incorporating smart technologies and biomicicry. Initially, we are expanding the marketing of revolutionary, field proven energy efficient HVAC equipment designed by our CTO, Dr. Bert Willke, Ph.D (the technical lead and patent holder from MITCO and HVAC 21). Our air handlers and fans need half the power or less compared to any other option to revolutionize sustainable building design. Partnering with some of the largest industry leaders, our ”Smart Devices” deliver extreme energy reductions, acoustically superior performance, increased architectural space due to our compact footprints, many LEED points, and integrated building design opportunities to reduce capital costs while maximizing energy performance. Our upcoming products under development will create efficient HVAC systems nimble enough to support smart building controls to cut building energy usage even further.
