Chief Financial Officer @ US Foods is a leading foodservice distributor with net sales of over $22 billion. The Company is owned by funds managed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc. and Kohlberg Kravis and Roberts & Co. US. Foods provides an important link between 5,000 suppliers and 200,000 foodservice customers nationwide, offering an innovative array of fresh, frozen and dry food and non-food products consisting of over 350,000 items. The Company offers leading brands and has one of the most extensive private label product portfolios in foodservice distribution. US Foods proudly employees about 25,000 employees and operates over 61 divisions nationwide.
As CFO, Fareed leads all finance, accounting and treasury functions. In December, 2013, US Foods announced a merger agreement with Sysco Corporation. The transaction represents over $8 billion in cash, stock and debt and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2014 pending regulatory approval. From September 2013 to Present (2 years 2 months) Greater Chicago AreaChief Financial Officer @ United Stationers Inc. is a leading national wholesale distributor of business products, with consolidated net sales of over $5 billion. The Company is publically traded (USTR). United stocks a broad assortment of over 140,000 products, including technology products, traditional office products, office furniture, janitorial and breakroom supplies, and industrial supplies. The Company’s network of 64 distribution centers allows it to ship products to approximately 25,000 reseller customers, enabling the Company to ship most products overnight to more than 90% of the U.S. and next day delivery to major cities in Mexico and Canada. The Company also has operations in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
As CFO, Fareed led all finance, accounting, treasury and Investor relations functions. In addition, he played key role in driving strategy and key operating initiatives. From July 2011 to September 2013 (2 years 3 months) EVP Finance and Strategy @ USG is North America's leading producer and distributor of gypsum wallboard, joint compound and a vast array of related products for the construction and remodeling industries. The Company is publically traded (USG). USG is the global leader in the manufacture of ceiling suspension systems and are recognized as the premier acoustical panel and specialty ceiling systems innovator. USG’s products provide creative building solutions that set new standards for productivity and efficiency, helping contractors and architects deliver high quality and innovative designs. USG, through its subsidiary L&W Supply Corporation, is also the nation's largest distributor of drywall and related building products. L&W serves the professional contractor through a network of more than 140 locations and strives to be their preferred source for all quality products and services they need to complete their projects — on time and on budget.
As EVP Finance, Fareed led all finance, accounting, treasury, investor relations activities. In addition, he had responsibility for Information Technology and Strategy. From September 2010 to June 2011 (10 months) Greater Chicago AreaPresident & CEO, USG Building Systems @ During his career at USG Corporation, Fareed has held key operating roles typically associated with major change management, performance improvement or strategic initiatives.
Prior to his EVP Finance role, Fareed served as President & CEO, USG Building Systems, USG Corporation’s largest operating division. Fareed was responsible for over 9,000 employees located across 60 production facilities. Reporting to Mr. Khan are several business units, each with annual revenues ranging from $300 to $550 million, as well as “shared” functional organizations such as sales, national accounts, marketing, customer service and manufacturing.
Other roles included: Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing; Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management and Information Technology; Vice President, Marketing; Director, Strategy and Business Development. From September 1999 to September 2010 (11 years 1 month) Greater Chicago AreaConsultant @ McKinsey & Company is a global management consulting firm, serving as the trusted advisor to the world’s leading businesses, governments and institutions. The firm currently operates over 100 offices across 60 countries. Between 2002 and 2014, McKinsey has been ranked in the number one position of the "The Best Consulting Firms and was cited as the "most prestigious consulting firm of all" in a 2011 New York Times article.
As a consultant, Fareed advised top management at leading global organizations, primarily focusing on technology-oriented, multi-business companies in industrial products, electronics, and lifesciences sectors. During his tenure, Fareed developed deep experience in global growth strategies, optimizing business portfolios and strengthening capabilities in marketing, supply chain and innovation. Active leader in McKinsey’s growth, corporate strategy and operations effectiveness practices. From June 1992 to September 1999 (7 years 4 months) Greater Chicago AreaProject Engineer @ MDS Nordion International is the leading producer of radio-pharmaceuticals and related products for medical and industrial applications world-wide. Fareed spear-headed the design, launch and support of cancer therapy and measurement devices. He also developed and tested transportation containers for radioactive materials. From January 1990 to September 1991 (1 year 9 months) Engineer @ CAMI Automotive Inc. is a joint venture between Suzuki and GM producing cars and SUVs for the North American market. Fareed was part of a core team leading the implementation of production control and information systems during start-up and early operations. Fareed led Kaizen initiatives and quality circle activities and had deep exposure to lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, TQM and the Toyota production system.
