Vice President, Personal Care (Brand Development), Unilever Africa @ Member of the Personal Care Leadership Team. Reporting in to the President of the Personal Care global division. Delivery of category growth ambition in Africa. Responsible for the full breath of the Personal care category covering the range of skin care, hair care, deodorant, oral care and skin cleansing sub categories.
- Category strategy in to action: Translating category strategy into clear and actionable business plans aligned with all countries; understand and make trade-offs within and across categories and understand consequences of any decision made; have a deep understanding of relevant markets and dynamics of the customer and consumer base
- Portfolio Management: Delivery of successful performance in developing 'where to play' strategy plans; demonstrate deep understanding of (and navigates) consumer, competitor and trends in setting plans and making portfolio plays
- Manage complex stakeholders: builds a coalition of support across many stakeholder camps to ensure successful outcome for brand, category and business; establish robust networks that can be deployed in the event support needs to be rallied
- Lead Africa based cross functional teams: Effective delivery of category strategy to drive sustainable business growth. From January 2014 to Present (2 years) Vice President, Brand Development - Africa @ Based in South Africa and Kenya. Member of the Personal care skin-cleansing and Hair global category leadership team. Leads the Africa based brand development teams, building individual and team capability. Drives a key contribution for the development of the Africa category strategy through defining strategic priorities. Responsible for the delivery of Personal Care skin cleansing and hair category strategy growth objectives for the Africa market. Working with the country leaders, responsible for driving the innovation agenda to build presence in the category. From July 2013 to December 2013 (6 months) Group Marketing & Innovation Director @ Based in Kenya, responsible for driving growth for Diageo’s East Africa business. Diageo East Africa is the region’s largest alcohol beverage company and the 2nd largest capitalized business in the regions stock exchange. Responsible for a team of over 50 marketers across 6 East Africa countries delivering growth drivers across a total beverage portfolio of beer, spirits & non-alcoholic category and spearheading the innovation agenda across the region. A broad multi-category beverage portfolio of global, regional and local beers, spirits and adult non alcoholic categories including Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys, Guinness, Tusker lager and Senator beer. Member of the East Africa Executive Team. Member of the Diageo Digital Global Governance Team. Member of the Diageo Ways of Brand Building Faculty for Africa. From July 2010 to June 2013 (3 years) Marketing Director, Kenya @ Appointed to lead the marketing team of the blue chip company. Responsible for a broad portfolio of brands including Tusker lager, Guinness, Senator beer and Pilsner lager in Kenya. Leads a team of talented marketers to develop and build iconic brands and drive consistent double digit growth. From September 2008 to June 2010 (1 year 10 months) Regional Marketing Manager - Africa @ Based in the Diageo Head office in London, I was appointed to the role as a senior marketer responsible for the lager beer and spirits mixed drink category for Africa. Led for growth in the highly competitive alcoholic beverage segment. Delivered growth drivers including development of brand platforms and communication. Responsible for the delivery of category strategies for the region. Led team responsible for the Africa-Europe Growth Conference. From September 2005 to August 2008 (3 years) Marketing Manager - Core business @ Responsible for the core business (70% value) - leading the development and growth of Tusker, Pilsner, Senator beers in the country. From 2002 to September 2005 (3 years) KenyaGroup Product Manager - Eastern Africa region (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti) @ Led seamless post-merger brand integration in to BAT portfolio.
