High Performance Driving Instructor/Coach (part-time, 'consultant') @ HookedOnDriving.com and Audi Club of North America • Experienced with vehicle dynamics at performance limits, of various vehicle types and driving conditions• Provide bespoke in-car instruction to students of varying skill levels; in a timely, clear, and precise manner.• Help students establish learning objectives, and provide continuous feedback base on student performance. At various Northern CA & Mid-Atlantic road course race tracksMachine Learning & Data Science Fellow @ Galvanize Inc • Intensive 3-months Data Science Immersive Program• Studied and practiced applying statistical inference analysis and various machine learning techniques• Developed solutions to real-world case-study problems such as: customer behavior prediction, fraud/anomaly detection, recommender systems and social network analysis From April 2016 to July 2016 (4 months) San Francisco Bay AreaPrincipal Simulation Engineer - supporting NASA Ames SimLabs @ New Directions Technologies Inc. • Documented, analyzed, and modified existing Boeing 747-400 simulator motion cueing algorithms in Matlab/Simulink to produce artificial vertigo-inducing motion cues; implemented and verified changes in legacy source code system; then conducted piloted experiment on the simulator for flight crew spatial-disorientation research.• Integrated a high-fidelity software model of Boeing 737-800 aircraft (and its flight automation and control systems) into a generic research simulator cockpit, overcame challenges of incompatible legacy cockpit control interfaces to still provide satisfactory system performance.• Designed & implemented a robust control algorithm to integrate legacy force-feedback back-driven cockpit control inceptors, with the Boeing 737's Flight and Thrust-Control-Computer (FCC/TCC) software to provide accurate and more importantly, safe tactile cueing to the pilot controls. From January 2013 to April 2016 (3 years 4 months) NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CASenior Simulation Engineer - supporting NASA Ames SimLabs @ SAIC • As team lead, orchestrated NASA assets into a distributed simulation with DoD facilities across the country. Planned and conducted joint-NASA/DoD operators-in-the-loop studies on operating autonomous military aircraft in civil airspace.• Led and conducted multiple pilot-in-the-loop flight-handling-quality (HQR: Cooper-Harper Handling Quality Rating scales) simulation research studies in the NASA Ames Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS).A sample of these studies include:• Effects of various added-dynamics on rotorcraft precision-hover flying tasks• Stabilized visual landing-aid algorithms to help helicopter pilot land on a moving ship at sea• Effects of large rudder pedal inputs on an airliner encountering wind-shear during after-takeoff climb-out. From July 2008 to January 2013 (4 years 7 months) NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CASenior Aerospace Engineer @ SAIC • Developed interface requirements for flight guidance & cueing system, for a 5th-generation multi-role fighter (JSF/F-35) to conduct all-weather precision shipboard landings.• Developed and integrated non-linear high-fidelity enthalpy-based math models of turbo-shaft gas-turbine engines for multiple rotary-wing aircraft simulations.• Provided mentoring and guidance to junior staff by assisting with several projects that were at performance risk.[Specifically requested by previous customer, NASA Langley, to provide critical expertise on:]• Refined software system architecture for distributed simulation used for Air Traffic Management (ATM) studies.• Debugged and improved flight control and Flight Management System (FMS) for distributed ATM simulation. From February 2005 to June 2008 (3 years 5 months) Simulation & Research Services Division, Lexington Park, MDLead Engineer - supporting NASA Langley @ SAIC • Established and led a new contractor team (for SAIC) to support the creation of NASA Langley's Air Traffic Operations Lab (ATOL) and its distributed Air Traffic Operations Simulation (ATOS) software.• Lead developer for a desk-top high-fidelity flight-deck avionics simulation (ASTOR) for studying advanced Distributed Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts such as Autonomous Flight Rules (AFR). AFR entails having the aircraft self-perform conflict detection of traffic & hazards and provide trajectory resolution advisories to the flight crew, thus reducing reliance on centralized ground-based air traffic controllers.(ASTOR: Aircraft Simulation for Traffic Operations Research)• Modeled multiple airborne systems, including: avionics; airborne communication architecture;surveillance; guidance, navigation, & control (GNC); aircraft flight physics; and pilot interface.• Developed a Boeing 777 Auto Flight System (AFS) for ASTOR from scratch by extracting functional and performance information from flight manuals and numerous simulation test discussions with pilots.• Received SAIC Award of Excellence in Program Performance From May 2001 to February 2005 (3 years 10 months) NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VAAerospace Engineer - supporting NAVAIR @ SAIC • Developed, integrated, and tested multiple real-time human-in-the-loop hardware-in-the-loop physics-based aircraft simulation systems. These enabled the US Navy to successfully conduct engineering analysis, flight software development, accident investigations, flight test preparation and flight crew training.• Spanned above experience across various US Navy aircraft using engineering tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and other DoD developed analysis software.• Received LETTER OF APPRECIATION from US NAVY PROGRAM EXECUTIVE OFFICE for providing superior technical expertise during the development of the S-3 flight control computer hardware-in-the-loop simulation facility and initial test of the Digital Flight Data Computer.• Received CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY from SAIC for outstanding performance in developing a physics & thermodynamic enthalpy-based real-time simulation modeling approach for jet turbine engines. This allowed for a much more accurate prediction of off-nominal engine performance by correctly capturing the cascading effect of components and malfunctions, while reducing the complexity of the software model.• Learned to fly and received FAA pilot certificate, which provided practical hands-on operator experience to compliment aeronautical engineering academics. From December 1995 to May 2001 (5 years 6 months) Naval Air System Cmd, Manned Flight Simulator (MFS), NAS Patuxent River, MD
