Technical Director @ I was appointed by Arrow ECS as UK Technical Director in January 2015. I am responsible for developing and maintaining Arrow’s technical relevance in the channel, as well as the implementation of technical strategies with vendors, VARs and the Arrow SMARTcentres. I am also Arrow ECS’s key spokesperson for the UK's media and analyst community looking for technical insight on current trends. See some of my published articles below. From January 2015 to Present (11 months) London, United KingdomGlobal Head of Cloud Intergration @ After the success of the initial launch of the ArrowSphere project, in July 2012, and with the launch of the platform in North America, I was promoted to Head of Global Cloud Integration. This was as part of Arrow ECS’s formalisation of their first global business unit. I allocate 50% of my time to EMEA and 50% to the US, with our vendors and my teams in both locations.
I have collaborated in API development with many of the biggest vendors in the world including VMware, SAP and IBM, helping them to develop their cloud offerings and then using my teams to take them to market through developing tooling and API's.
I have always believed that leading from the front, and by example is critical in team environments, especially technical teams. I believe respect is earned through ensuring that you always have an answer for the questions that haven’t been asked, as well as being able to think on my feet and under pressure. From January 2013 to December 2014 (2 years) London, United KingdomEMEA Lead Cloud Architect @ In 2011 Arrow ECS took the strategic decision to begin a transformation of their business from a traditional distribution model to one that could also transact cloud services in a fully automated self-service model. This was the start of the ArrowSphere project. My role was to enable our channel partners to take the services to market along side traditional products. The key to this was to enable and support our partners as they transformed their own businesses from erratic revenue streams to more long-term predictable annuity based revenue. To achieve this my teams needed to provide clear, concise messaging to our partners to take ArrowSphere’s consolidated low risk message to their customers. From April 2012 to January 2013 (10 months) London, United KingdomTechnical Development Manager @ Arrow ECS is the world’s largest IBM hardware and software distributor. My role includes Arrows UK product certifications, partner technical and general product education, consultancy and solutions design using IBM and other third party products and solution development. I have been responsible for generating a dramatic increase in profit through the IBM channel. This contributed to IBM being the most profitable division in Arrow ECS UK in Q3, 2011. In August 2011 I became 1 of 4 people in the world to achieve the IBM cloud architect certification; this has resulted in Arrow ECS being the only IBM cloud distributor in UKI. From November 2010 to April 2012 (1 year 6 months) London, United KingdomPre Sales Technical Manager @ As a comparatively small company, Transputec allowed me the opportunity to attend to the dynamic and flexible needs of customers. My responsibilities included the technical relationship between Transputec and key accounts, leading in every technical aspect required with particular onus on conceptual high level design work and solution proposals, through to final architecture including estimated timescale. Further pre-sales responsibilities included proof of concepts, load testing and user acceptance studies, additional detailed assistance for customers’ internal IT staff, to produce MD, CTO level project proposals and presentations.
This role has allowed me to understand the end-to-end processes involved in designing complex solutions, developing close relationships between the infrastructure architect and the sales teams which is essential to increase margins; and profitability From October 2009 to November 2010 (1 year 2 months) IBM Business Developement Manager @ CCD increased my commercial knowledge of the IT reseller channel. Working for CCD has not only given me the chance to further develop my commercial skills, but also allowed me the opportunity to extend my technical knowledge of IBM. I consulted on, and developed, large scale marketing campaigns (Free IT) along with leading the IBM business on a day to day basis in our top ten accounts which total a targeted £14 million annually. CCD has provided me with a platform to become an IBM systems expert, gaining every X86 technical certification available to date. I was responsible for architecting large virtualisation projects including the largest installation of Microsoft Hyper-V in Europe in December 2008 (full details on request). In addition to this I have been responsible for designing VMware virtual servers and desktop infrastructures for FE and HE institutions including the Royal Academy of Dance and Hertford Regional College as well as private sector organisations such as architect’s Calfordseaden and consultancy for Lockheed Martin, Markel UK Ltd and Tokio Marine Europe. From November 2008 to October 2009 (1 year) London, United KingdomField Technical Sales Specailist for System X @ Projects ranging from $30K to $500K utilising the System X and Bladecenter product range and all the entry and midrange storage products.
